On May 19, the Bac Giang Provincial Police announced that the Criminal Investigation Agency had issued a decision to initiate a criminal case and prosecute Nguyen Van Tan (DOB: 1983), residing in Tran Khat Chan Street, Tho Xuong Ward, Bac Giang City, for the crime of “Violation of regulations on food safety” as stipulated in Article 317, Clause 1 of the Penal Code.

During an inspection of compliance with legal regulations on food safety, the Bac Giang City Economic Police, in collaboration with the Bac Giang Center for Disease Control, and Tho Xuong Ward Police, discovered and seized over two tons of 1- to 4-day-old bean sprouts, along with tools and chemicals used in the production process at Nguyen Van Tan’s facility.
The investigation revealed that, since January 2025 until the time of detection, Nguyen Van Tan had been using the growth stimulant 6-Benzylaminopurine in bean sprout production. This substance is not permitted for use in food production.
On average, the facility produced approximately 500 kg of bean sprouts daily.
From the beginning of the year until now, the facility has supplied the market with about 60 tons of bean sprouts containing the growth stimulant 6-Benzylaminopurine.
