Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Construction has reported to the People’s Committee on the progress of the Vo Van Kiet Road Extension project.

In December 2024, the People’s Committee assigned the Department of Construction to prepare a pre-feasibility study report and propose investment policies for the Vo Van Kiet Road Extension project. The proposed investor for this project is the Project Management Unit for Traffic Works Construction.

This Group A project is significant in completing the transportation infrastructure connecting Ho Chi Minh City with neighboring provinces. The road starts at the overpass on National Highway 1 on the existing Vo Van Kiet Road and ends at Pham Van Hai Ward in Binh Chanh District, adjacent to the DT.823D project in Long An Province.

The project is divided into three sections: Section 1 is 2.7 km long from National Highway 1 to Vo Tran Chi Street; Section 2 is 6.6 km long from Vo Tran Chi Street to Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3; and Section 3 is 5.3 km long from Ring Road 3 to the border of Long An Province.

Notably, Section 1 was previously invested in under a BOT format, but the contract with the investor was terminated in November 2024 for project restructuring.

For the remaining sections, the city plans to construct several large-scale works, including six overpasses (including Cai Trung, Hung Nhon, Lang Le Bau Co, and Kenh An Ha – Xang An Ha bridges) and an interchange with Ring Road 3, consisting of overpasses, ramps, and tunnels.

In terms of investment scale, the project is designed with a 60-meter-wide cross-section, allowing for speeds of 80 km/h for motor vehicles and 60 km/h for mixed traffic. The project will be implemented in the 2026-2030 period in Tan Kien, Tan Nhut, Le Minh Xuan, and Binh Loi wards of Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City.

Two investment options are under consideration for this project. Option 1 involves investing in the entire 14.6-km route with a total investment of over VND 19,397 billion. Option 2 focuses on the 5.3-km section from Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 to the border of Long An Province, with a total investment of nearly VND 14,000 billion.

This project will not only contribute to the completion of the East-West traffic axis and reduce the burden on National Highway 1 and existing routes but also serve as a catalyst for connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Long An and the Mekong Delta region, opening up development potential for the western area of the city.
