A Tesla Cybertruck owner shared an interesting experience this May when he took his electric pickup to an authorized service center.

“I took my Cyberbeast for a spa treatment and it came back like a baby,” the owner complained on a Cybertruck owners’ forum.

It all started when the owner brought his vehicle to the workshop to install additional lights and adjust the misaligned body panels—a common issue with the Cybertruck due to its unique design. He also wanted the technicians to inspect the ABS brake light, as it was intermittently turning on and off.

The owner started to feel something was amiss when the workshop asked him to pick up the car a day later than scheduled. Upon arriving at the workshop to take delivery of his vehicle, he immediately noticed something was wrong as his phone could no longer connect to the infotainment system. When he sat in the driver’s seat, he also realized that a part of the dashboard trim was hanging loosely below the glove compartment, which he had to reattach himself.

In addition, the newly installed light bar had uneven gaps on both sides, the rear trunk latch was loose, and one of the body panels was misaligned. These were some of the issues the owner discovered.

The owner shared an image of the dashboard showing the mileage as 15 miles and also shared the VIN number to add credibility to his claims. Image: CheddaTruck

However, the most shocking element for the owner was the odometer, which now displayed zero miles. Before bringing the vehicle to the workshop, the odometer read 26,000 miles. The “rollback” was likely an accidental result of the technicians’ software adjustments to the electric pickup. “The odometer may not have been rolled back but rather completely reset like new,” the owner speculated.

Although it was likely unintentional, this is still a very serious issue. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), resetting or altering an odometer to change the displayed mileage is considered fraud. In the United States, more than 450,000 vehicles are sold each year with false odometer readings.

Resetting the odometer, even if done by the manufacturer, is not beneficial to the owner. The vehicle’s history will definitely be called into question, resulting in the car being labeled as “True Mileage Unknown,” which significantly reduces its value. Considering that the Tesla Cybertruck’s Cyberbeast trim has a starting price of $100,000, the owner’s loss is substantial.

The owner did not disclose the location of the service center he visited, but the images he shared appear to support his claims.
