Construction Commences on the Hoa Binh – Moc Chau Expressway in Son La Province

On May 18, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh attended and delivered a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Hoa Binh – Moc Chau Expressway project in Son La Province.

Mr. Mai Van Chinh emphasized that developing transportation infrastructure, especially road infrastructure, is one of the strategic breakthroughs. The Hoa Binh – Moc Chau Expressway project is a vivid testament to the determination of the Party and State to invest in infrastructure, especially in challenging regions like the Northwest.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his confidence that the Hoa Binh – Moc Chau Expressway project in Son La Province will be constructed and completed on schedule and with high quality, significantly contributing to the comprehensive development of Son La and neighboring provinces, providing a crucial boost to the Northwest region’s connectivity and sustainable development.

The Son La section of the Hoa Binh – Moc Chau Expressway is 32.3 km long and has a total investment of over VND 4,900 billion. In comparison, the Hoa Binh section has a total investment of VND 9,997 billion for 34 km, bringing the total investment for the entire route to VND 14,897 billion.

The project includes tunnels and special bridges with pillars over 50 meters high. The architectural design ensures aesthetics and cultural appropriateness for the ethnic groups in Hoa Binh and Son La provinces.

In terms of investment phases, the project is designed for a speed of 80 km/h and a road width of 12 meters in phase 1. It will be constructed to accommodate four lanes in the completion phase.

A highlight of the expressway is the Hoa Son Bridge, which spans the Hoa Binh Lake – one of the largest artificial lakes in Vietnam and part of the planned Hoa Binh Lake National Tourism Area. With a length of approximately 1.2 km, it will feature the longest main span in Vietnam (550 m) and the tallest bridge tower in Vietnam (187 m), making it a landmark structure.

Drawing inspiration from the majestic natural scenery of towering mountains and deep lakes, the design of the Hoa Son Bridge features soaring towers that taper to a point, symbolizing the mountains and a spirit of resilience. The bridge towers also incorporate stylized ethnic patterns, celebrating the cultural heritage of the region.

Earlier, on September 29, 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Hoa Binh – Moc Chau Expressway project in Da Bac District, Hoa Binh Province. This marked the commencement of construction on the first expressway in Hoa Binh Province, a key project for the transportation sector.
