On the afternoon of May 20, Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Science and Technology announced that, according to the official report of StartupBlink, the city has climbed one spot to 110th place in the global startup ecosystem ranking, the highest position ever.
For the first time, the city entered the Top 5 most innovative startup ecosystems in Southeast Asia.
The StartupBlink Ranking is a reputable global evaluation tool that measures startup ecosystems based on criteria such as the number of startups, the quality and scale of supporting resources (such as incubators, investment funds, and co-working spaces), global connectivity, local policies, and innovation capabilities.
According to StartupBlink, Ho Chi Minh City has risen in the global rankings for four consecutive years, especially in the Fintech field, with a high growth rate. It is currently ranked in the global Top 30 for Blockchain and is second in Southeast Asia. The city is Vietnam’s most vibrant and dynamic startup hub. It has made significant progress in terms of infrastructure support and is gradually becoming a notable destination in the region with a creative and dynamic startup community, strong support from the city government, and an ever-improving business environment.
“The improvement in StartupBlink’s ranking is a well-deserved recognition of the combined efforts of the entire political system and the city’s innovation and startup ecosystem,” said Lam Dinh Thang, Director of Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Science and Technology. “Ho Chi Minh City aims to bring its startup and innovation ecosystem into the Top 100 most dynamic ecosystems globally by 2030. The city focuses on three main areas: policies, infrastructure, and human resources. While ranking is important, the city emphasizes that what matters more is the substantive quality and sustainability of the ecosystem,” emphasized Mr. Lam Dinh Thang.
This year’s improvement not only reflects Ho Chi Minh City’s continuous efforts to improve its startup environment but also provides an opportunity for the city to reassess and reposition itself within the global startup ecosystem landscape.
Ho Chi Minh City will develop and seek expert opinions on the Plan for the Development of the Innovation and Startup Ecosystem for the period of 2025-2030. This is also a necessary step in implementing the Resolution 57-NQ/TW, aiming to bring the city into the Top 100 global innovation and startup ecosystems in the coming years.
