The Lao Cai – Hanoi – Haiphong railway project, with a total length of approximately 419 km, will pass through 9 provinces and cities. It is expected to commence construction in December 2025 with a total investment of around $8.3 billion. This standard-gauge railway will have a speed of 160 km/h and can easily connect to the Yunnan railway (China)
Upon completion, the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Haiphong railway will boost the economy by facilitating faster and more efficient cargo transportation, reducing production and business costs, and promoting the development of industries, agriculture, and services along the route. Moreover, it will enhance regional connectivity, strengthen international cooperation, and foster tourism.
The route will include 31 stations, including 3 particularly large ones: Lao Cai Station (60 ha), Yen Thuong Station (Hanoi, 57 ha), and Nam Haiphong Station (51 ha). These 3 stations are strategically located at the beginning, near the end, and in the center of the route.

In Hanoi, after passing through Bac Hong and Dong Anh stations, the route will run parallel to the left of the Hanoi – Thai Nguyen expressway until it reaches Yen Thuong Station.

Yen Thuong Station is located in Yen Thuong commune, Gia Lam district, Hanoi, and Chau Khe ward, Tu Son town, Bac Ninh province.

Yen Thuong Station is designed with 19 standard-gauge tracks and 3 meter-gauge tracks, second only to Nam Haiphong Station in terms of track number on this route.

This mixed-use station will handle passenger and freight trains, as well as locomotive maintenance and coach repairs.

Currently, the planned construction site of Yen Thuong Station mainly consists of rice fields, gardens, ponds, and scattered residential areas.

One part of Yen Thuong Station borders the Chau Khe industrial cluster, where roads to Gates 1 and 2 of the station will be planned based on existing concrete roads. Gate 1 is next to the Chau Khe industrial cluster, while Gate 2 faces the Dinh Vy village communal house.

A part of Dinh Vy village falls within the planned station area and will require land clearance.

As an important project with a strategic location, large scale, and diverse functions, Yen Thuong Station plays a crucial role in the transportation system of Hanoi and the northern region. Together with Yen Vien Station, Yen Thuong Station will serve as a northern freight train formation station, relieving pressure from the old, congested, and inadequate Gia Lam Station.

Yen Thuong Station connects to Yen Vien Station, which is also the starting point of the urban railway route No. 1 (Ngoc Hoi – Yen Vien – Nhu Quynh), contributing to the goal of reducing urban traffic congestion and environmental pollution in the city center.

The railway transportation system, along with well-planned and highly connected road networks such as Ring Road 3, Ring Road 4, National Highway 1A, National Highway 3, and National Highway 5, will drive the development of urban-industrial-service areas. The value of real estate in neighboring areas will increase significantly, as seen in projects like Vinhomes Co Loa (Dong Anh district) and some urban areas in Gia Lam and Dong Anh.
