At the meeting, the Director of the Department of Economics and Investment Construction Management reported to the Minister on the items belonging to the four component projects of the Long Thanh airport, which are being accelerated.

Component Project 1 includes the headquarters of state management agencies, which are basically on schedule, with many items expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.

Component Project 2 involves air traffic control structures and has also yielded positive results. The air traffic control tower has been constructed up to a height of 107.93 m/115 m and is expected to be completed before September 30. Auxiliary works such as the technical building, VIP building, and substation will be equipped with equipment from June onwards, and many other items will be completed by the end of the year.

In Component Project 3, the contractor of the passenger terminal has mobilized over 5,000 workers and 1,000 machinery equipment, completing up to the fourth floor, with a value of about VND 13,504 billion. The construction is targeted to be completed before December 31, followed by the installation and testing of the system equipment.

Runway No. 1 is ahead of schedule by three months and has successfully tested the lighting system.

However, the inland transport package (4.8) is delayed due to a lack of machinery, manpower, and challenging construction conditions. The investor, Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), is requested to review the schedule and focus on resolving bottlenecks.

Component Project 4 (catering and aircraft maintenance hangars) currently has five items in progress. The investor commits to basically completing them before December 31, as directed by the Prime Minister.

Regarding the aircraft maintenance hangar No. 4 project, as directed by the Ministry of Construction, the Vietnam Aviation Administration has worked directly with the investor, Vietnam Airlines, to agree to terminate and liquidate the contract for Hangar No. 4 and proceed with the signing of the contract for Hangar No. 2.

Immediately after terminating the contract for Hangar No. 4 with VAECO, the Vietnam Aviation Administration will implement the procedure for selecting an investor for Vietjet, in accordance with the conclusion of the Prime Minister and the direction of the Ministry of Construction.

At the meeting, contractors continued to report difficulties in obtaining construction materials. As of May 12, only about 1.18 million m3 of rocks have been supplied to the construction site, while the demand for 2025 is nearly 4.92 million m3. The contractors requested that the leaders of Dong Nai province create favorable conditions and provide support in terms of soil and rock supply to meet the project’s schedule.

At the meeting, representatives of ACV also proposed the early expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh expressway to 10 lanes as planned to ensure efficient exploitation and the transfer of international flights from Tan Son Nhat airport to Long Thanh airport.

Concluding the meeting, Minister Tran Hong Minh evaluated that the Long Thanh airport project has had positive changes, and the component projects are being implemented according to the plan. The Minister commended the investors and contractors for their efforts.

However, the investors and contractors must not be complacent and should maintain their progress to complete the items by the end of December 2025, as required by the Government and the Prime Minister.
