On May 22, the Management Board of Investment Projects for Transport and Agricultural Construction in Da Nang (BoM) reported to the city’s People’s Committee about the shortage of construction sand.

The report states that several key public investment projects in Da Nang are at risk of interruption, severely affecting their progress and quality.

Construction sand in Da Nang is in short supply

This is due to a series of companies supplying commercial concrete in the city’s market suddenly announcing suspensions or price increases for their products.

Specifically, Vietnam-Korea Construction and Trading Investment Joint Stock Company – Quang Nam Branch and Ph. Y. Trading Investment Company temporarily halted their concrete supply to the market. Vinaconex 25 temporarily stopped taking orders from May 21 and provided concrete at a higher price of VND 120,000/cubic meter from May 22.

As for Song Han concrete plant, Sy Kien Manh Company announced that they would only supply to large-volume and traditional customers, with price increases ranging from 20 to 30%.

These companies attributed the situation to a severe shortage of construction sand. As a result, the construction sand market has experienced significant fluctuations without any signs of decreasing. Especially, the sand supply is extremely scarce as the mines supplying sand to the Da Nang – Quang Nam market have temporarily halted their operations.

In response to this crisis, BoM reviewed the ongoing projects and identified four projects currently impacted: the Bien Bridge Improvement Project, the Hoa Xuan – Cam Le Sewage Collection System Project, the Yen River Dyke Project, and the Cu De Dyke Project.

BoM reported and proposed that the Da Nang People’s Committee promptly consider and provide feedback to relevant agencies to address the shortage of construction sand, control market prices, and minimize the impact on construction projects.

According to our understanding, the price of construction sand in Da Nang has surged dramatically over the past month. Within two weeks, the price increased from VND 300,000/cubic meter to nearly VND 700,000/cubic meter.

This is due to sand mines in Quang Nam province temporarily halting their operations or releasing limited quantities, causing a scarcity in the construction sand market, which affects multiple ongoing projects in the Quang Nam – Da Nang region.
