On May 19, 2025, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited and inspected the construction progress of the National Exhibition Center project, which will host an exhibition celebrating the country’s achievements in construction, defense, and development on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The Prime Minister acknowledged and commended the efforts of Vingroup for following through on his directives from his visit in October 2024 to expedite construction, commenting that “Vingroup’s speed is like that of the legendary giant Saint Giong.”

The National Exhibition Center – Vietnam Exposition Center (VNEC) is located in Dong Anh district, Hanoi, spanning over 90 hectares. With an indoor exhibition area of 304,000 square meters after phase II, it ranks among the top 10 in the world. The project commenced on August 30, 2024, and is envisioned as a new symbol of prosperity and a key project of the capital city to commemorate the 80th National Day (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025).

To date, the project is in its final completion stage and is expected to be fully completed by July 2025, in line with Vingroup’s commitment – that is, after only 10.5 months of construction compared to the initial plan of 2 years.

The photos show the project site in October 2024 (after 2 months of construction) and at the present time.

Currently, the steel construction and load testing have been completed. The investor shared that despite the rapid construction pace, every detail has been meticulously executed. All bolts were tightened and checked twice, and no force-related issues were detected.

To construct the massive structure of the National Exhibition Center, an estimated 24,000 tons of steel were installed. The entire steel framework was designed with a safety factor twice that of the standard requirement to ensure long-term durability and absolute safety during operation.

The architectural highlight is the Kim Quy Exhibition Hall, inspired by the legend of Kim Quy (Golden Turtle God) in the story of the construction of Co Loa Citadel. The outer diameter of the building is approximately 360 meters, with a dome height of over 56 meters. All indoor exhibition halls in Kim Quy can be connected to form a single open space with a total exhibition area of more than 94,000 square meters, making it the second-largest interconnected exhibition space in the world upon completion. The installation of fiberglass fabric roofing is expected to be completed by June 10. This lightweight yet super-strong material is translucent, meeting the green architecture and energy-saving standards of global-scale projects.

The main exhibition hall will be completed by June 30, 2025, after exactly 10 months of construction,

ready to serve the setup of the exhibition celebrating the country’s achievements in construction, defense, and development, organized to commemorate the 80th National Day. With 120,000 square meters of indoor exhibition space and 20.6 hectares of outdoor exhibition area, this will be the largest exhibition in the history of Vietnam’s exhibition industry.

The conference center and the regular exhibition center are expected to be completed by July 15. These are two important auxiliary items of the project, designed to meet specialized needs and ensure in-depth fulfillment of diverse requirements.

Also, in early July, VNEC will be technically inaugurated, ready to host large-scale events and artistic performances. Following the Prime Minister’s directives, the National Exhibition Center will be officially inaugurated on August 19, along with the commencement and completion of a series of key projects nationwide to celebrate the 80th National Day.

Auxiliary items such as the fountain, landscaping, and roads around the exhibition area have also been basically completed.

Located at the northeastern gateway of Hanoi, the National Exhibition Center is just a 15-minute drive from Noi Bai International Airport and 5 minutes from Hoan Kiem and Tay Ho districts via the Tu Lien Bridge, which was recently commenced on May 19 and is expected to be completed in 24 months. After

its completion, this center will become a destination and architectural highlight, capable of hosting political, economic, cultural, and entertainment events of regional and international stature, thus

enhancing Vietnam’s global standing.

With an incredibly rapid construction period of only 10.5 months, the National Exhibition and Fair Center will set a new world record for the construction speed of a national-scale exhibition project. For instance, the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center (160 hectares, ranked first in the world) is known for its “Shenzhen Speed,” taking 3.5 years to complete. The National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai (147 hectares, ranked second in the world) was completed in 3 years. With this unprecedented feat, VNEC becomes a new testament to Vingroup’s reputation, superior capabilities, and strong execution in infrastructure development.
