The license plate 88A-888.88 sold for a record-breaking price of over VND 21 billion at an online auction held on May 22nd, 2025.
On the afternoon of May 22nd, an online auction for vehicle license plates took place, with the prestigious plate 88A-888.88 going under the hammer at 3 pm.
After intense bidding, the VIP plate from Vinh Phuc Province fetched a staggering VND 21,325,000,000, setting a new record for the highest auction price ever achieved.
Prior to this auction, the Ministry of Public Security approved the auction plan for “Auction No. 6,” which included 2,181,366 license plates up for grabs (624,827 car license plates and 1,556,539 motorcycle license plates).
Among these plates were several highly desirable VIP combinations such as “567.89”, “888.88”, and “999.99”.
So far, in the sixth auction, over 1.5 million license plates have been listed, with more than 34,600 plates successfully auctioned off and a total auction value surpassing VND 1,600 billion.
Breaking it down, there were 342,000 car license plates listed, of which over 11,300 were auctioned off, generating more than VND 1,200 billion. For motorcycle license plates, 1.2 million plates were listed, with over 23,300 auctioned off and a total value of over VND 387 billion.
In previous auctions, several license plates also fetched impressive prices, including 51K-888.88 for VND 15,265,000,000, 30K-555.55 for VND 14,495,000,000, 11A-111.11 for VND 8,780,000,000, and 72A-777.77 for VND 6,850,000,000.
The previous five auctions, which exclusively featured car license plates, included: Auction No. 5 with 388,389 plates, Auction No. 4 with 339,780 plates, Auction No. 3 with 188,399 plates, Auction No. 2 with 288,668 plates, and Auction No. 1 with over 153,000 plates.
