In 2018, an investigation revealed that Phan T.D (born 1963, residing in Dai Hiep, Dai Loc, Quang Nam) and Pham Chien Thang established Quang Nam Crystal Trading Co., Ltd., operating in sand mining. By 2020, Thang held the position of Chairman of the Members’ Council and owned 30% of the capital contribution.

During this time, the sand market was sluggish, prices were low, and competition with other sand mines made business difficult, affecting the company’s members, including Pham Chien Thang. Legally, Thang remained an official contributing member, owning 30% of the capital contribution (as reflected in the minutes of the Members’ Council meetings of Quang Nam Crystal Trading Co., Ltd.). However, in reality, Thang had transferred 23% of his capital contribution to others, retaining only 7%.

The Investigation Police Agency of Da Nang City announces the decisions regarding Pham Chien Thang.

On April 15, 2021, the company elected Mr. Nguyen D.H (residing in Hai Chau District, Da Nang City – the victim in this case) as the new Chairman of the Members’ Council, replacing Thang. In 2022, aiming to regain control of the company and the sand mine, Thang devised a plan and unilaterally brought in a group of individuals with criminal records: Tran Ngoc Anh (born 1967), Bui Thu Huyen (born 1985), both residing in Hanoi; Le Ba Vu and Nguyen Phi Hung, both from Hai Phong, to work at the Quang Nam Crystal sand mine to exert pressure.

During their employment, these individuals disregarded company regulations, unilaterally increased extraction equipment, failed to contribute revenue to the company, and frequently threatened and intimidated other mining teams and contributing members.

Towards the end of 2022, facing a complex situation, the company decided to close the mine. Mr. Nguyen D.H., fearing the gang’s “gangster” behavior, chose to stay home and avoid trouble. The group repeatedly called and sent threatening messages to Mr. H. and his family.

Tran Ngoc Anh, one of the suspects, and the evidence seized at the time of his arrest under the special wanted notice.

On July 7, 2023, while Mr. H. was walking near his home on Phan Dang Luu Street (Hai Chau District), he was attacked by Nguyen La Duy, an accomplice of Tran Ngoc Anh’s gang. Duy suddenly slashed Mr. H. multiple times with a knife, injuring him. Afterward, Duy’s accomplice, Pham Van Viet, arrived at the scene and fled with Duy.

Following the attack, Mr. H. submitted his resignation as Chairman of the Members’ Council of Quang Nam Crystal Trading Co., Ltd. Seizing the opportunity, Pham Chien Thang regained his position as Chairman, reclaiming control of the company. To conceal his crimes, Thang arranged for Tran Ngoc Anh’s group to flee the country and cut off all contact with them.

In early February 2025, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City issued a special wanted notice for Tran Ngoc Anh, Bui Thu Huyen, and Le Ba Vu. Within a short period, all three suspects were apprehended for investigation.

The investigation revealed that Pham Chien Thang was the mastermind behind the crimes, directing the group to commit offenses to seize control of the company and the sand mine.

The case is currently under further investigation.
