The Vietnamese negotiating delegation, led by Minister of Industry and Trade and Head of the Government Negotiating Delegation Nguyen Hong Dien, included members of the Negotiating Delegation and representatives from various ministries and sectors: Public Security, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Construction, Interior, Agriculture and Rural Development, Science and Technology, Justice, and the State Bank of Vietnam.
During the three-day negotiations, with great determination and effort, the Vietnamese and American delegations exchanged views on all the issues raised before the negotiation session in a spirit of goodwill, frankness, respect for each other’s institutions, and a balanced approach to interests. They also sought to align with international commitments and the development level of each country. Both parties took the time to share information about their current policies, clarify the content in the draft agreement’s text, and discuss an overall approach to addressing fundamental issues of mutual concern to expedite the negotiation process. Additionally, the delegation members openly and constructively discussed economic and trade issues that are core interests for both nations.
At the conclusion of this round of talks, Vietnam and the United States made significant progress, identifying areas of consensus or converging views and those requiring further discussion for agreement in the future. They also set timelines for providing feedback on the draft agreement, proposing text, and organizing online meetings to prepare for the next negotiation session.
On the third day of work, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien held negotiations with Ambassador and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to consolidate the outcomes of the second round and identify areas requiring continued focus in early June 2025.
