On May 19, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited the construction site of the Vietnam National Exhibition Center, which will host an exhibition celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The Prime Minister recognized and applauded Vingroup’s efforts in following his instructions from his October 2024 visit to expedite construction, comparing their speed to that of a legendary hero.

Located in Dong Anh district, Hanoi, the Vietnam Exposition Center (VNEC) spans over 90 hectares, with an indoor exhibition area of 304,000 square meters, placing it among the top 10 largest exhibition centers globally. The project, which broke ground on August 30, 2024, is envisioned as a new symbol of prosperity and a landmark project for the capital to commemorate the 80th anniversary of National Day (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025).
Currently in its final stages of completion, the project is on track to be fully realized by July 2025, fulfilling Vingroup’s commitment to deliver it in 10.5 months instead of the initially planned two years. The photos below show the project site in October 2024, two months after the groundbreaking, and its current state.

Steel construction and load testing have been completed, with the investor emphasizing that despite the rapid construction pace, every detail has been meticulously executed. All bolts were tightened and checked twice, with no force-related issues detected.
Approximately 24,000 tons of steel were used to construct the massive exhibition center’s structure. The entire steel frame structure was designed with a safety factor twice the standard requirement to ensure long-term durability and absolute safety during operation.
The architectural highlight is the Kim Quy Exhibition Hall, inspired by the legend of Kim Quy, a mythical turtle that helped build the ancient citadel of Co Loa. With an outer diameter of about 360 meters and a dome height of over 56 meters, the hall offers a massive exhibition space of over 94,000 square meters, making it the second-largest interconnected exhibition space in the world upon completion.
The installation of fiberglass fabric, a lightweight yet highly durable and translucent material, on the roof is expected to be completed by June 10. This design aligns with the green architecture standards and energy-saving requirements of global-scale projects.

The main exhibition hall will be ready by June 30, marking the end of a 10-month construction period. It will then be prepared for the exhibition setup, celebrating the country’s achievements in construction, defense, and development over the last 80 years. With 120,000 square meters of indoor exhibition space and 20.6 hectares of outdoor exhibition area, this will be the largest exhibition in the history of Vietnam’s exhibition industry.
The convention center and the permanent exhibition center are expected to be completed by July 15. These two important auxiliary components of the project are designed to meet specialized needs, ensuring they can accommodate a diverse range of requirements.
Additionally, in early July, the VNEC will be technically inaugurated, ready to host large-scale artistic performances and events. Following the Prime Minister’s directive, the National Exhibition Center will be officially inaugurated on August 19, coinciding with the groundbreaking and inauguration of numerous key projects across the country to commemorate the 80th anniversary of National Day.

Auxiliary features such as the fountain, landscaping, and roads surrounding the exhibition area are also nearing completion.
Strategically located at Hanoi’s northeastern gateway, the National Exhibition Center is just a 15-minute drive from Noi Bai International Airport and 5 minutes from Hoan Kiem and Tay Ho districts via the Tu Lien Bridge, which was also inaugurated on May 19 and is expected to be completed in 24 months. Once finished, the center will become a prominent destination for architecture and fine arts, capable of hosting political, economic, cultural, and entertainment events of regional and international stature, elevating Vietnam’s standing on the world stage.
With its unprecedented construction speed of just 10.5 months, the National Exhibition and Fair Center will set a new global record for the fastest construction of a national-scale exhibition project. This record-breaking achievement solidifies VNEC as a testament to Vingroup’s reputation, superior capabilities, and robust implementation prowess in infrastructure development.
