On May 24th, the Investigation Police Agency of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province announced that they have initiated legal proceedings and charged L.T.A.T. (33 years old, residing in Vung Tau city) with tax evasion and smuggling.

The Vung Tau-Con Dao Inter-district Tax Team, under the XV Regional Tax Department, discovered during their supervision and tax management in Vung Tau city that Ms. T. was exhibiting signs of tax evasion through her online business activities on e-commerce platforms. They promptly coordinated with the provincial Investigation Police Agency, providing relevant information and documents to support their investigation.

The investigation revealed that Ms. T. had registered and utilized multiple accounts on e-commerce platforms and social media sites like Facebook and Tiktok to sell goods sourced from Thailand without proper business registration. She conducted her business activities under her personal name, failing to declare and pay taxes as required by law.

From the evidence gathered, authorities determined that from the beginning of 2023 to May 2025, Ms. T. generated over VND 27 billion in revenue from her online sales. However, she did not fulfill any tax obligations, resulting in tax evasion amounting to more than VND 400 million.

This conduct not only caused financial loss to the state budget but also distorted the competitive landscape and set a detrimental precedent for digital business operations. As a result, the Investigation Police Agency of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province initiated legal proceedings and charged Ms. T. with tax evasion and smuggling.

The case is currently under further investigation to uncover the involvement of other individuals, the origin of the goods, and the full extent of Ms. T.’s business activities on other social media platforms.

Presently, the XV Regional Tax Department is vigorously conducting inspections and taking action against smuggling, commercial fraud, and tax law violations. The affiliated Tax Teams are mandated to collaborate closely with the police, especially in scrutinizing abnormal cases in electronic transactions, to promptly detect and strictly handle any violations.

The primary objective of this intensified campaign is not only to safeguard state budget revenues but also to foster a transparent and equitable business environment, fostering the healthy development of the digital economy.
