On May 26, the Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee (Hanoi) is coordinating with the Hanoi Transport Corporation (Transerco) and related units to implement safety measures, dismantle and relocate equipment, and demolish the “shark mouth” building at 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang Street (Hoan Kiem District). The demolition is in preparation for the renovation and beautification of the Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square as planned by Hanoi city.
Regarding the Dong Kinh – Nghia Thuc Square renovation project, earlier on March 19, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh requested the units to complete the site clearance by April 30 and the construction of the above-ground part by September 2.

The building is expected to be demolished by June
However, by the end of May, the concerned parties have just started the process of demolishing the building.
Regarding the investment in renovating this square, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh has clearly stated specific solutions, including demolishing the “shark mouth” building; studying and proposing the construction of three underground floors in the current square and the expanded space (after the removal of the “shark mouth” building) to accommodate cultural and commercial spaces on the first basement level, and parking areas on the second and third basement levels. If parking is not feasible, the space can be utilized for dual purposes.
