According to Mr. Trinh, at 2:30 PM on May 18, a man in his 40s arrived at his lottery ticket agency located at 11 Do Xuan Hop, Binh Trung Dong Ward, Thu Duc City, on a motorbike. He asked to redeem two lottery tickets with the number sequence 408568, which were third-prize winners in the Tra Vinh Lottery on May 16, 2025. The total prize money for the two tickets amounted to VND 6 million.

Upon examining the tickets with a light, Mr. Trinh believed them to be genuine, although they appeared slightly faded compared to authentic tickets. As per the regulations, Mr. Trinh would charge a fee of VND 100,000 for redeeming each ticket.

The man then purchased an additional ten lottery tickets for VND 100,000 and was given VND 5.7 million in change by Mr. Trinh. He also inquired about Vietlott lottery tickets but stated that he had not participated in that lottery.

However, when Mr. Trinh attempted to redeem the tickets at the lottery company, he discovered they were counterfeit. He admitted that he had neglected to scan the QR code on the tickets, which is a reliable method to distinguish between genuine and fake lottery tickets.

The fake lottery ticket appeared genuine when inspected under a light.

Mr. Trinh also mentioned that, in addition to his agency, he knew of two other lottery ticket agencies in Thu Duc City (located at 307 Hoang Huu Nam, Long Thanh My Ward) and District 10 that had fallen victim to the same scammer, with a total loss of VND 10 million.

Reporters from Báo Người Lao Động contacted the two agencies mentioned by Mr. Trinh, and they confirmed being scammed through the same modus operandi.
