Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction Orders Immediate Action to Address Leaking Roof at Tan Son Nhat Airport’s Terminal 3

Vietnam’s Minister of Construction, Tran Hong Minh, has issued an urgent directive to the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) and Tan Son Nhat International Airport regarding the swift resolution of outstanding issues at the newly inaugurated Terminal 3.

Terminal 3, a flagship infrastructure project led by ACV, was fast-tracked to open ahead of schedule in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam and national reunification.

While the early completion of the terminal, despite space constraints and a challenging construction environment, is commendable, recent operational issues have surfaced. Although these issues do not impact the safety or functionality of the terminal, they detract from the aesthetic appeal and passenger experience, generating public concern.

Addressing Leaking Roof Issue:

To permanently resolve the aforementioned problems and ensure operational safety, Minister Tran Hong Minh has instructed ACV to conduct a thorough review and address all shortcomings that have arisen.

Emphasis has been placed on rectifying the leaking roof issue in the check-in and waiting areas, with ACV directed to develop a comprehensive plan to ensure safe operations during the rainy season.

Additionally, ACV is to coordinate with contractors, owners, and managers to conduct a comprehensive review of the terminal, proactively identifying potential issues to prevent similar occurrences. This proactive approach will ensure the terminal’s functionality and operational safety.

The Minister has also instructed ACV to expedite the completion of outstanding tasks, particularly stone cladding in the terminal. This process must not interfere with the terminal’s operations and safety. Furthermore, ACV is to establish a maintenance plan and conduct regular maintenance and structural monitoring as per legal requirements.

Contractors involved in the construction of Terminal 3 are expected to increase their resources and collaborate closely with ACV to address the identified issues and fulfill their warranty obligations. They are accountable to ACV and bound by legal responsibilities for any incidents impacting the quality and safety of the terminal.

The Tan Son Nhat International Airport is tasked with enhancing oversight and monitoring of Terminal 3 operations, promptly reporting any emerging issues to relevant authorities. Collaborative efforts with stakeholders will ensure aviation security during the terminal’s operation.

Minister Tran Hong Minh has urged ACV, Tan Son Nhat International Airport, and all relevant parties to promptly execute these directives and provide updates on their progress.
