Early lychee varieties from Dak Lak province have been flooding online markets, with sellers promoting their harvest and offering competitive prices. The lychees, known as “U Hong” lychees, are a variety that ripens earlier than the famous Thanh Ha and Luc Ngan lychees, allowing for an earlier harvest by almost a month.
One seller, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Van, advertised these early lychees on social media platforms at a wholesale price of 20,000 VND per kilogram for bulk purchases directly from the orchard: “I offer this wholesale price for customers who buy two or more boxes. Each box weighs approximately 20 kilograms of high-quality lychees, ensuring they are not damaged or infested. I provide nationwide delivery,” Ms. Van said.

According to sellers, the U Hong lychees are harvested from April to June each year. This variety is characterized by plump fruit with a pinkish hue, almost the size of a chicken egg. They have a sweet and slightly tangy taste, not as sweet as the famous lychees grown in the North.
This year’s lychee harvest is more abundant than the previous year, resulting in a significant drop in prices. While the wholesale price at the orchards is relatively low, reaching only a third of last year’s price, the retail price can go up to 70,000 – 100,000 VND per kilogram.
“Last year, the lowest buying price at the orchard was 50,000 VND per kilogram, and orchards with high-quality lychees could sell at higher prices. However, this year, the prices are much lower, with some places selling for just over 10,000 VND per kilogram. These are orchards with lower-quality lychees,” a seller shared.
Currently, the early U Hong lychees from Dak Lak are mainly supplied to the Southern market, with only a small number being sold online to the Northern region.
Ms. Bich Ngoc, a seller from Hanoi, shared her experience: “I have been importing U Hong lychees from Dak Lak and selling them online, and they have been very popular. I have to continuously restock because they sell out quickly. I focus on sourcing the best quality lychees instead of compromising for lower prices. Currently, I am selling them at 69,000 VND per kilogram, guaranteeing the quality of the fruit, and many customers are satisfied. As the harvest season progresses and northern orchards start producing lychees, I will look into sourcing from there to reduce transportation costs,” Ms. Ngoc said.
Meanwhile, the two largest lychee-growing provinces in the North, Bac Giang and Hai Duong, are expected to see a significant increase in lychee production this year. Many orchards plan to start harvesting in the coming days.
According to the Plant Protection and Cultivation Department of Hai Duong, the province has 8,800 hectares of lychee orchards this year. Of this, 2,800 hectares are early-ripening lychees, and 5,800 hectares are main-season lychees. The harvest time for early lychees is expected to be from May 20 to June 10, while the main crop will be harvested from June 10 to the end of June.
Due to favorable weather conditions, the total lychee yield is estimated to reach approximately 65,000 tons, an increase of 10,000 tons compared to last year (55,000 tons in 2024). Specifically, the yield in Thanh Ha district is projected to reach 38,000 tons, a significant increase of 13,000 tons compared to the previous year.
Similarly, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Bac Giang reported that in 2025, the province maintained a stable lychee-growing area of 29,700 hectares, including 8,000 hectares of early-ripening lychees and 21,700 hectares of main-season lychees.
The expected yield is 165,000 tons, comprising 60,650 tons of early lychees and 104,350 tons of main-season lychees. The economic value of lychee production in this season is estimated to reach approximately 5,000 billion VND.
