According to the Hanoi Tourism Department, in the first five months of 2025, the department launched plans for tourism product development, promotion, and market expansion, featuring notable events. This contributed to an increase in the total number of tourists visiting Hanoi during this period, estimated at 12.77 million, a 10.9% rise compared to the same period in 2024.

Of these, international visitors accounted for an estimated 3.16 million, while domestic tourists reached approximately 9.61 million. Tourism revenue is estimated at 51.94 trillion VND, a 14.1% increase compared to the same period last year.

In May 2025 alone, Hanoi welcomed approximately 2.72 million tourists. International visitors accounted for 567,370, while domestic tourists reached 2.16 million. Tourism revenue for the month is estimated at 10.54 trillion VND.

SUMMER TOURISM BOOST

For 2025, Hanoi aims to attract 31 million tourists, including 7.5 million international visitors. The city expects tourism revenue to reach 130 trillion VND, contributing over 8% to the city’s GRDP. To achieve these goals, Hanoi’s tourism sector will continue to organize promotional activities, honor cultural and historical heritage, and promote the capital’s unique destinations, products, and services.

The 2025 Hanoi Tourism Festival, held from May 30 to June 1 at the Thang Long-Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center, will feature a program to kick off the summer campaign, encouraging locals and domestic and international tourists to experience Hanoi during the summer.

The festival will offer diverse experiential spaces, including the “Hanoi Destinations” zone, a business networking space, a traditional craft experience area, a Hanoi culinary zone, a space connecting Hanoi with other provinces and international friends, and a technology-driven Hanoi tourism exploration zone, among others.

In addition to the main festival venue, prominent tourist attractions in Hanoi will join the festivities with various activities. In the Old Quarter, visitors can expect to immerse themselves in the cultural and traditional craft experiences, such as making traditional handicrafts, packaging Cốm (green rice flakes), and enjoying Hà Ná»™i’s specialty of ô mai (dried fruit). There will also be tò he (toy figurine) making and calligraphy demonstrations.

Historical sites like the Royal Citadel of Thang Long, the Temple of Literature, and other participating relics will organize cultural and artistic events, photography experiences with traditional costumes, promotions, and performances of court rituals during specified time frames.

Visitors to Duong Lam Ancient Village can look forward to experiencing the culture of the Northern Delta, including making rice cakes, tofu, and peanut candy, as well as participating in a “A Day as a Farmer” tour involving rice planting and fishing. In Bat Trang Ceramic Village, visitors can try their hand at pottery making and painting, and shop for unique ceramic products. At Van Phuc Silk Village, guests will be immersed in the ancient art of silk making, from spinning and weaving to designing and creating their own silk scarves.

Thien Duong Bao Son amusement park will offer entertainment and technology-focused experiences, while Tuan Chau Country Tour in Quoc Oai District will showcase the essence of Northern Vietnam with art performances and folk games infused with AR/VR technology.

Notably, the “Trấn VÅ©” night tour program is set to launch on May 29, 2024, and officially welcome guests from August 2025. This 90-minute weekly program is expected to accommodate around 100 guests per tour.

To effectively utilize and promote the value of this historic site for tourism development, the management board has arranged exhibition spaces showcasing Tet holiday traditions, scholar’s pavilions and exam preparations, calligraphy, and ancient costume experiences. A cultural gift line named “Trấn VÅ© Quán Khánh” will also be introduced, inspired by an ancient gong cast in 1677 during the Le Trung Hung era.

PLANS FOR THE REMAINING MONTHS OF 2025

According to Ms. Dang Huong Giang, Director of Hanoi Tourism Department, in the first six months of 2025, the total number of tourists to Hanoi is estimated to reach 15.55 million, an increase of 11.8% compared to the same period in 2024. Tourism revenue is expected to reach 62.299 trillion VND, a 14.6% rise from last year.

Looking ahead to the second half of the year, Ms. Giang emphasized the need to continue digitizing information about tourist attractions, destinations, services, and markets in Hanoi. This includes utilizing 360-degree photo interfaces and new technologies at craft villages, relics, and cultural heritage sites across the city.

The department also plans to develop smart software solutions to support management and provide tourists with convenient information access, effectively promoting Hanoi’s tourism offerings. Additionally, software will be utilized to collect and process data related to agricultural tourism assessments and developments within the city.

To meet the growing demand, Hanoi’s accommodation system will continue to expand and upgrade. The city currently boasts nearly 3,800 accommodation facilities with over 70,000 rooms, including many 3- to 5-star hotels, ensuring a comfortable stay for domestic and international visitors.

Key events, including the 80th National Day celebration on September 2, the 2025 Hanoi Tourism Festival, and the Hanoi Ao Dai Festival, are expected to attract a large number of domestic and international tourists. In tandem with these events, the city will focus on developing its strengths in culinary tourism, health tourism, and MICE tourism (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions).

“The Hanoi Tourism Department will continue to develop new tourism products in potential areas, such as night tourism in Hoan Kiem and Tay Ho districts, adventure sports tourism, experiential tourism, Red River tourism, and virtual reality tourism,” said Ms. Giang. “We will also strengthen cooperation with other provinces and cities to develop joint tourism products and services that complement each other’s strengths, including cultural-spiritual tourism in Hanoi – Ha Nam – Ninh Binh and discovery tours in Hanoi – Son La, Hanoi – Lao Cai – Lai Chau,” she added.
