As part of his official visit to Malaysia, on May 25, in Kuala Lumpur, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính met with Tony Fernandes, Founder and Chairman of Capital A Group. Capital A Group is a diversified conglomerate, notably known for its low-cost carrier brand, AirAsia, the largest budget airline in Southeast Asia.
The founder of Capital A Group acknowledged Vietnam’s potential to become a logistics hub in the region and expressed his desire to collaborate to enhance the operational capabilities of Vietravel Airlines and expand cooperation with Vietnam in areas such as e-commerce, logistics, and advanced payment technology solutions…
The Prime Minister appreciated the group’s business achievements and its cooperation and support in Vietnam over the years. He highlighted the significant growth potential of the aviation industry and requested the group to consider increasing flights between the two countries in the future. This would facilitate business connections and boost tourism for both nations.
Given the strong and amicable relations between Vietnam and Malaysia, the Prime Minister welcomed and supported the collaboration between Capital A Group and Vietravel Airlines, as well as other airlines, to enhance their operational capabilities.
The Prime Minister suggested that Capital A Group explore opportunities for stronger cooperation with Vietnamese partners and seek market development prospects in Vietnam. He also encouraged the group to share its expertise in technology application and aircraft management to reduce financial costs and environmental emissions, aligning with the goals of green growth and sustainable development.
Currently, AirAsia operates 346 weekly flights on 17 routes from Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Phnom Penh, and Siam Reap, connecting major cities in Vietnam, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Danang, Cam Ranh, and Phu Quoc.

The Vietravel Airlines project was approved by the government in April 2020, with an initial capital of VND 700 billion. The airline operated its first commercial flight in early 2021. Since then, its registered capital has been increased to VND 1,300 billion.
The year 2024 marked a turning point for Vietravel Airlines. In the first quarter of 2024, the airline recorded a net profit of approximately VND 10 billion, its first profit since its establishment. In November of the same year, the airline was approved to increase its charter capital back to VND 1,300 billion. Notably, on December 12, 2024, Mr. Do Quang Hien (“Bầu Hiển”) officially became a strategic shareholder, signifying a significant shift in the airline’s development orientation.
Despite improvements in its financial and ownership structure, Vietravel Airlines has yet to fully recover in the short term. Currently, the airline operates a modest fleet of one leased narrow-body aircraft.
According to statistics from the Vietnam Aviation Authority, in the first two months of 2025, Vietravel Airlines had the lowest number of operated flights in the market. In January, the airline operated 617 flights, which decreased to 444 flights in February. The airline’s on-time performance was 65.8%, slightly lower than the industry average of 67.4%.
Vietravel Airlines currently serves domestic routes connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with destinations such as Danang, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, and Phu Quoc. Additionally, the airline maintains two international routes connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok, Thailand.
On April 1, 2025, Vietravel Airlines held an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders. At this meeting, Do Vinh Quang, the son of T&T Group founder Do Quang Hien and husband of beauty queen Đỗ Mỹ Linh, was elected to the Board of Directors for the 2025-2030 term. The new Board of Directors appointed Do Vinh Quang as the Chairman of Vietravel Airlines.

Do Vinh Quang (born in 1995) is the second son of Do Quang Hien, the founder of T&T Group. He currently serves as the Vice Chairman of T&T Group and the Chairman of Hanoi Football Club. He is also known as the youngest chairman in Vietnamese football history and the husband of beauty queen Đỗ Mỹ Linh. Do Vinh Quang holds over 119 million SHB bank shares, valued at nearly VND 1,500 billion.

The Annual Cost of Administrative Procedures Compliance Exceeds 120 Trillion Dong
According to statistics, the annual cost of administrative procedures compliance amounts to a staggering 120 thousand billion VND. In light of this, the Prime Minister has issued an urgent directive to review, streamline, and simplify administrative procedures related to production and business activities. The goal is to reduce the time, cost, and conditions for business operations by at least 30% each in 2025.
