The Binh Khanh Bridge construction began in August 2015 and is one of the critical components of the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway. The total investment for the project exceeds VND 2,800 billion. In the initial phase, the project progressed swiftly, reaching approximately 70% completion, including the tower and approach spans. However, towards the end of 2018, construction had to be halted due to financial constraints.

After a nearly five-year hiatus, the Binh Khanh Bridge project resumed in late October 2023. According to the latest progress report from the investor, the project has completed over 93% of the construction, with 16 out of 18 bridge spans installed, approaching the opening date.

Contractors are focusing on expediting the construction of critical components such as cantilever casting, cable pulling, and bridge deck concrete pouring to complete the project promptly.

As per the plan, the Binh Khanh Bridge is expected to be joined together in June and fully completed by early September. This is considered a significant step forward, paving the way for the opening of the entire Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway by the end of 2026, connecting key transport routes in the southern region.

The Binh Khanh Bridge has a total length of over 2.76 km, with the main bridge spanning 763 meters and designed as a modern cable-stayed bridge. It features a two-plane cable-stayed structure with H-shaped towers standing at a height of 135 meters. The bridge’s air draft of 55 meters is the highest in Vietnam, allowing large cargo ships to pass through. The bridge deck is 21.75 meters wide, accommodating four vehicle lanes and two emergency lanes, adhering to modern expressway standards.

The Phuoc Khanh Bridge, located on the same expressway, is considered the final link of the Ben Luc – Long Thanh route and is part of the J3 package. Spanning the Long Tau River, it connects Can Gio District in Ho Chi Minh City with Nhon Trach District in Dong Nai Province. This structure plays a crucial role in completing the strategic transport axis connecting the Mekong Delta with the Southeast region.

The Phuoc Khanh Bridge construction commenced in July 2015. With a total length of over 3,100 meters and a bridge deck width of 22 meters, it accommodates four lanes and two emergency lanes, adhering to modern expressway standards. By early 2019, the project had achieved approximately 80.7% completion. However, construction had to be halted due to financial and funding challenges.

According to VTC News reporters’ observations in late May, the project site had only a few security guards and no workers or engineers, raising concerns about the actual progress, especially with the entire expressway expected to open by the end of 2026.

The J3-1 package, which involves completing the remaining work on the Phuoc Khanh Bridge, is undertaken by a joint venture between Construction Infrastructure Corporation and Freyssinet Vietnam. With a contract value of over VND 635 billion and an expected construction period of 450 days, this phase is crucial to the completion of the Phuoc Khanh Bridge and the overall progress of the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway.

The Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway project, with a total length of nearly 58 km and traversing three provinces of Long An, Ho Chi Minh City, and Dong Nai, has been extended until September 30, 2026, to account for potential challenges during construction, especially at critical packages like the Phuoc Khanh Bridge, which is pivotal to the overall timeline.
