Starbucks Vietnam’s official fanpage recently sparked excitement among netizens with a intriguing post: “We’re up to something, guess where our new store will be?” Accompanying the post was an illustrative image that fueled speculation. It depicted a structure resembling a temple, alongside a palm fruit—a signature of the Mekong Delta region, hinting at a specific location.

The post quickly garnered a lot of engagement and comments with predictions. Netizens offered their guesses, with some leaning towards Can Tho, one of the largest cities in the Mekong Delta, known for its concentration of prominent brands. Others boldly suggested Kien Giang, renowned for its beach and island attractions. However, An Giang, specifically Chau Doc, was the most mentioned location.

The temple-like structure in the image resembled the distinctive architecture of Chua Ba Chau Doc, a prominent spiritual tourist destination in Chau Doc, attracting millions of visitors annually.

Additionally, the palm fruit was a significant clue, as it is closely associated with An Giang, one of the largest palm fruit producers in the country, particularly in Tri Ton and Tinh Bien districts.

Palm fruit has become an iconic specialty of An Giang, known for its rustic and refreshing taste, and its use in various rustic dishes such as fresh palm juice, palm sugar, palm fruit cake, and palm fruit dessert. The tall, slender trees with large, round leaves create a unique landscape rarely found elsewhere. In photographs of the Mekong Delta during the flood season, the silhouette of the palm fruit tree is almost synonymous with the region.

Starbucks’ subtle hint about a new store in the Mekong Delta region, possibly in Chau Doc, has not only excited young people but also indicated a fresh direction for the brand: reaching out to localities beyond major cities like Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi. Many also expressed their curiosity about how Starbucks would blend modern design with local cultural characteristics if they were to open a store there.

Although there has been no official confirmation from Starbucks, the coffee brand has successfully ignited an enthusiastic “location hunt” among netizens with just a teasing post and an evocative image. Everyone is eagerly awaiting the reveal on May 31st.
