Yamaha Tricity 155, a unique three-wheeled scooter, has recently been imported to southern Vietnam, as revealed by a local importer.
According to the information shared, this importer has brought in a batch of Yamaha Tricity 155 scooters from Japan. These scooters are powered by a 155cc engine, similar to many other popular scooters on the market.

Specifically, the Yamaha Tricity 155 is equipped with a single-cylinder, 4-stroke Blue Core gasoline engine with VVA (variable valve actuation), delivering a maximum power of approximately 15 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and a torque of 14 Nm at 6,500 rpm.
The scooter’s dimensions are 1,980 mm in length, 750 mm in width, and 1,210 mm in height, with a weight of about 172 kg. These dimensions are not significantly different from other popular scooters. Referring to the specifications in India and Europe, the Yamaha Tricity 155 has a fuel consumption of approximately 2.5L/100km, which is also not far off from other models.
Model | Dimensions (LxWxH) (mm) | Weight | Fuel Consumption |
---|---|---|---|
Yamaha Tricity 155 | 1,980 x 750 x 1,210 | 172 kg | 2.5L/100km |
Yamaha NVX 155 | 1,980 x 700 x 1,150 | 125 kg | 2.19L/100km |
Honda SH160i | 2,090 x 739 x 1,129 | 133 kg | 2.37L/100km |
Vespa GTS 150 | 1,950 x 755 x 790 | 150 kg | 2.3L/100km |

The scooter features dual front wheels and ABS on all wheels.
Interestingly, despite having three wheels, the Yamaha Tricity 155 can be ridden with a regular motorcycle license, without the need for a different license category.
In reality, Vietnamese regulations do distinguish between two-wheeled and three-wheeled motorcycles. However, according to the “National Technical Regulation on Safety Techniques, Environmental Protection for Motorcycles and Motorcycles”, the Yamaha Tricity 155 is still considered a “two-wheeled motorcycle.”
The regulation states:
Dual wheels: Two wheels mounted on the same axis, with a distance between the centers of the contact patches of the two wheels with the road surface not exceeding 460 mm. Dual wheels are considered as a single wheel.
The importer mentioned that the Yamaha Tricity 155 meets the criteria for dual wheels, and therefore, the same license as a two-wheeled vehicle can be used. With a 155cc engine, the rider needs a minimum of an A1 license (for motorcycles over 50cc, according to the old regulations) or an A license (for motorcycles over 125cc, according to the new regulations), similar to the requirements for other popular models on the market.

The rider can connect to the scooter via wireless connection.
With dual wheels at the front that can lean with the scooter, the design is called Leaning Multi-Wheel. This technology, developed by Yamaha, increases the scooter’s grip on the road, providing better stability when cornering or riding on rough terrain.
The scooter features three pairs of shocks and three brake discs—one pair of shocks and one disc for each wheel. Notably, the Yamaha Tricity 155 is equipped with ABS on both the front and rear wheels, ensuring optimal braking performance.
In addition to ABS, the Yamaha Tricity 155 is a modern scooter with a digital instrument cluster that supports connectivity with the rider’s phone.

The Yamaha Tricity 155 has a 23.5-liter under-seat storage compartment.
To prevent the scooter from rolling when parked on an incline, the manufacturer has included a parking brake on the left handlebar cluster, similar to those found in automobiles.
In addition to the specifications mentioned above, it is worth noting that the Yamaha Tricity 155 has a 23.5-liter under-seat storage compartment and a front storage compartment with a phone charging port.

According to regulations, dual wheels are considered as one unit, so riders of the Yamaha Tricity 155 can use a regular motorcycle license.
Some of the Yamaha Tricity 155 scooters in this imported batch are equipped with a Teito-developed canopy that includes a wiper. It is important to note that this is an external accessory. The Teito canopy, specifically designed for the Yamaha Tricity 155, weighs about 10 kg and has a width of 550 mm. With the canopy installed, the scooter’s dimensions become 1,980 mm in length, 900 mm in width, and 1,830 mm in height.
The Teito canopy features a PC plastic windshield attached to an ABS plastic canopy, along with a metal frame that mounts to the rear luggage rack. The canopy set also includes a rear trunk. The Teito canopy accessory has a maximum listed price of approximately 14.4 million VND (including tax). It is unclear what price the importer in Vietnam will offer for this accessory set.

The Yamaha Tricity 155 has a converted price of over 100 million VND. The importer has not yet announced the official selling price. Many speculate that the new price of the scooter could reach up to 130 million VND, equivalent to the price of large-displacement scooters with a capacity of about 300cc, such as the soon-to-be-released Yamaha Nmax.
In Vietnam, Piaggio Vietnam has been distributing the MP3 400 Sport, a three-wheeled motorcycle similar to the Yamaha Tricity 155 but with a larger engine. This European model is officially priced at 340 million VND.
