Ms. Hoa, a fruit vendor on Doi Can Street in Hanoi, shared that lychees are currently priced at VND 55,000-60,000 per kg.

The early-season lychees are priced 15-20% higher than the average of previous years.
Being early in the season, the lychees are quite expensive, so Ms. Nga sells them in smaller bunches weighing 1-1.5 kg. Moreover, a characteristic of early-season lychees is that they tend to be slightly sour and juicy, so customers mostly buy them to try.
Lychees are also sold online at a cheaper price of VND 35,000-40,000 per kg, and most sellers advertise that they have only a small quantity available.
Speaking to NLD, Mr. Nguyen Van Thiet, Director of the Cooperative for Production and Consumption of Early Lychees in Phuc Hoa (Tan Yen, Bac Giang), said that the wholesale price of early-ripened lychees is VND 40,000 per kg, which is higher than the average of previous years by 15-20%.
The cooperative has about 35 tons of early-season lychees. Currently, they have received export orders from China, Japan, and the EU with a signed price of VND 35,000 per kg.
“Lychees are just entering the harvest season, and we are expecting a good yield and price this year,” said Mr. Thiet.
According to Mr. Huynh Tan Dat, Director of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MARD), lychees are one of Vietnam’s specialty fruits.
The agriculture industry considers lychees a strategic product, and as a result, many large markets such as the EU, the US, China, and Australia have been opened up for this fruit. However, lychee exports are still largely dependent on the Chinese market.
Given the short harvest time of just 1-1.5 months, it is crucial to ensure consumption scenarios when lychees enter the main harvest season. Mr. Dat mentioned that this year’s output is expected to reach about 330,000 tons.
Therefore, the MARD is implementing solutions to consume lychee products, including VietGap-standard cultivation processes, extending the harvest time, and boosting supply-demand connections.
