On May 27th, the Ho Chi Minh Road Management Authority (under the Ministry of Construction) announced that the consulting and construction contractors for the La Son – Hoa Lien Expressway expansion project have been approved, with construction expected to commence on May 29th.

The results of the contractor selection process have been approved for the construction supervision consulting package and the XL01 construction package for the La Son – Hoa Lien section of the North-South Expressway Eastern Expansion Project. These packages include survey, design, construction drawing, equipment installation, and construction.

The La Son – Hoa Lien Expressway is currently designed with two lanes.

The XL01 package was won by a joint venture of seven contractors with a value of over VND 2,705 billion, which is nearly VND 5.18 billion, or 0.19%, lower than the approved package price.

The joint venture comprises: Vietnam Export-Import and Construction Corporation, Bridge Construction Joint Stock Company 75, Construction Joint Stock Company 525, East Sea Construction and Consulting Joint Stock Company, Thanh An Corporation, Joint Stock Company 484, and Traffic Construction Joint Stock Company No. 1.

The contract duration is 240 days from the approval date (May 23, 2025).

The project involves expanding the approximately 65km-long route from two lanes to four lanes, with a road width of 22m and a designed speed of 60-80km/h.

Additionally, the TV12 construction supervision consulting package for the XL1 package (valued at over VND 15 billion) was awarded to a joint venture between Transport Engineering Design Consultancy Joint Stock Company 2 and Transport Engineering Design Consultancy Joint Stock Company 5.

Previously, the two-lane La Son – Hoa Lien section was constructed and put into operation in April 2022.

The route aimed to reduce congestion on National Highway 1 and enhance connectivity between Hue and Danang in Central Vietnam. However, with only two lanes, the road encountered numerous issues and posed safety risks.

Consequently, local authorities proposed upgrading and uniformly expanding it to four lanes to address these problems.

The La Son – Hoa Lien Expressway expansion project starts at Km0, connecting to the end of the Cam Lo – La Son Expressway in La Son town, Phu Loc district, Hue city. It ends at Km66, at the Hoa Lien interchange, which connects to the beginning of the Hoa Lien – Tuy Loan route in Hoa Lien commune, Hoa Vang district, Danang city.
