Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his delight in the growing cooperation between Vietnam and the GCC since their last meeting at the WEF Davos conference in January 2025. He highlighted the ongoing discussions between Vietnam and the GCC on the potential launch of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations in the near future.

Prime Minister Chinh requested the GCC Secretary-General’s support in expediting the completion of procedures to announce the launch of FTA negotiations between the GCC and Vietnam as soon as possible. He also suggested exploring negotiations for agreements to encourage and protect investments, thereby facilitating the expansion of economic, trade, and investment cooperation.

The Prime Minister further proposed that the GCC Secretary-General encourage investors and businesses to increase their investments in Vietnam, especially in the development of international financial centers and projects related to digital transformation, energy transition, and green economy.

GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi congratulated Vietnam on its impressive achievements in economic growth and investment attraction, becoming a potential economy and a major industrial production hub in the world. He affirmed that all GCC countries attach great importance to and wish to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam. The Secretary-General agreed with Prime Minister Chinh’s proposals and committed to pushing for the early launch of FTA negotiations between Vietnam and the GCC, creating a favorable legal framework for enhanced economic cooperation.

Both sides agreed to coordinate effectively and substantially fulfill the commitments made at this conference. They will also collaborate on trade and investment promotion events in Vietnam and develop a specific plan to implement the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the GCC Secretariat to improve cooperation between the two sides in the coming time.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh conveyed the greetings of General Secretary To Lam and other senior leaders of Vietnam and expressed his hope to welcome the GCC Secretary-General to Vietnam in 2025 to further enhance bilateral cooperation.
