As Vietnam’s electric vehicle market experiences explosive growth, the question of charging infrastructure becomes increasingly pressing. Among the prominent brands is VinFast, topping the market with sales, surpassing traditional gasoline vehicle manufacturers. Many customers raise concerns: Can the electric vehicle ecosystem keep up with the pace of new product launches, especially with the upcoming releases of models like the VinFast Green and EC Van?

Addressing these concerns, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, CEO of Xanh SM, shared an insightful post on social media, offering an updated perspective on the current state and progress of charging station development. He assures that the infrastructure is undergoing a rapid transformation and can meet the growing demands of electric vehicle users.

In his post, Mr. Thanh recounts a brief exchange with Mr. Nguyen Thanh Duong, CEO of V-GREEN, the company responsible for deploying VinFast’s charging network and related ecosystem. When asked about their ability to support the infrastructure needs of new electric vehicle models, Mr. Duong confidently asserted, “Don’t worry. In the next 2-3 months, there will be approximately 5,000 ultra-fast charging stations (120kW), equivalent to more than 10,000 ‘charging guns’ covering major cities.”

If the deployment proceeds as planned, with a capacity of 120kW, these charging stations can charge 70-80% of the battery for models like the VF6, VF7, and VF8 in just 10-15 minutes—sufficient charge to last a week for regular urban commuting.

Mr. Thanh emphasizes that at the current rate of station deployment, finding a nearby charging station at home, work, or in public spaces like cafes, will become increasingly convenient. “The infrastructure is changing rapidly. With the current rate of expansion, all stations will offer ultra-fast charging, making accessing electricity for your vehicle as easy as refueling with gasoline,” he writes.

Notably, electric vehicles offer not only fast charging but also the advantage of home charging, which gasoline vehicles cannot match. This is one of the key factors contributing to the daily practicality of electric vehicles, especially in large urban areas.

Beyond infrastructure, Mr. Thanh also highlights other core benefits of electric vehicles. According to him, electric vehicles are not just “faster and cleaner” but also offer significant cost savings compared to gasoline vehicles. Additionally, electric vehicles have a simpler structure with fewer moving parts, resulting in reduced maintenance and servicing requirements.

These advantages can provide consumers with added peace of mind when considering switching from gasoline to electric vehicles, especially amidst rising fuel prices and maintenance costs.

According to statistics from vehicle manufacturers and distributors, electric vehicle sales in Vietnam are outpacing gasoline vehicles in multiple segments. Models like the VF 3, VF 5, and VF 6 continue to grow in popularity, while VinFast expands its product portfolio with offerings for logistics (EC Van) and taxi services (MinioGreen, Limogreen).

Consequently, expanding the charging infrastructure is not just a necessity but a critical factor in ensuring a positive user experience and sustaining the market’s growth trajectory.
