On May 29th, the Ministry of Construction, in collaboration with the People’s Committees of Hue and Da Nang, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of the North-South Expressway Eastern Cluster, La Son – Hoa Lien section.
The project, with a total length of approximately 65km, starts at Km0, connecting to the end of the Cam Lo – La Son Expressway (Phu Loc, Hue) and ends at Km66, linking to the beginning of the Hoa Lien – Tuy Loan route (Hoa Vang, Da Nang).

With a total investment of VND 3,010 billion from the state budget, the project is managed by the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Unit. Construction began in May 2025, with expected completion by the end of the year.
Upon completion, the expressway will meet the standards of a 60- and 80-grade highway, with designed speeds ranging from 60 to 80 km/h.
The road will feature four complete lanes, with a roadbed width of 22 meters. The project also includes the construction of new bridges or the expansion of 50 existing bridges along the route.

Minister Tran Hong Minh emphasized the importance of preventing waste, corruption, and negativity during the project’s execution.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh shared that Vietnam currently has approximately 2,268 kilometers of expressways in operation. By the end of 2025, this number is expected to exceed 3,000 kilometers, and by 2050, the country aims to have approximately 5,000 kilometers of expressways in operation.
The investment in expanding the La Son – Hoa Lien expressway section is a step towards completing the transportation infrastructure according to the master plan, ensuring modernity and synchronization.


The La Son – Hoa Lien Expressway will feature four lanes and a designed speed of 60 to 80 km/h upon completion.
To ensure timely progress, Minister Minh requested the People’s Committees of Hue and Da Nang to continue facilitating land clearance and handing over the cleared land to the project. He also emphasized the importance of promptly addressing resettlement for affected residents.
Additionally, the Minister urged support in expediting procedures for permitting the exploitation of construction material quarries and arranging waste disposal sites for the project, in accordance with legal regulations.
“The investor, consulting supervisors, designers, and contractors must demonstrate the highest sense of responsibility, developing scientific construction plans and methods suited to the actual conditions,” Minister Minh emphasized. He further stressed the importance of maintaining discipline in construction, ensuring progress, quality, safety, and environmental sanitation, while preventing corruption, negativity, and waste.

This upgrade will significantly enhance the capacity and efficiency of this vital transportation artery, accommodating increased traffic volume and providing a smoother, more seamless travel experience for road users.

Supplementary Planning for Two New Expressways
The Vietnam Directorate for Roads and Highways (under the Ministry of Transport) has submitted to the Ministry of Transport for approval adjustments to the Road Network Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision towards 2050. This includes the addition of two new expressways: Ca Mau – Dat Mui and Quang Ngai – Kon Tum.
