The Hanoi People’s Committee has issued Decision No. 2613/QD-UBND to implement the National Assembly’s Resolution No. 188/2025/QH15 on piloting several special mechanisms and policies for the development of the city’s metro network.

According to the decision, Hanoi aims to commence construction on two metro lines: Line 2, from Nam Thang Long to Tran Hung Dao, and Line 5, from Van Cao to Ngoc Khanh, Lang, and Hoa Lac, by October. The total estimated investment for these projects is VND 35,600 billion and VND 61,900 billion, respectively.

The plan also includes the completion of the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line by 2027, with a focus on finishing the underground section. Metro Line 2, spanning 11.5km, will feature 7 underground and 3 elevated stations, while Line 5 will be 38km long with 6 underground and 15 elevated stations.

Hanoi also outlines a timeline for additional metro lines: Line 3, Line 2’s Tran Hung Dao-Thuong Dinh section, Line 2’s Nam Thang Long-Noi Bai segment, and Line 2A’s extension to Xuan Mai, all scheduled for the 2026-2030 period.

Line 2 will commence from Nam Thang Long, traversing Nguyen Van Huyen, Hoang Quoc Viet, Hoang Hoa Tham, Thuy Khue, Phan Dinh Phung, Hang Giay, and Hang Dao, before concluding at Tran Hung Dao. Meanwhile, Line 5 will begin at the intersection of Van Cao and Hoang Hoa Tham, ending 5km past Hoa Lac towards Hoa Binh in Thanh Binh, Thach That district.

As per the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 1569 dated December 12, 2024, Hanoi plans to invest in 14 metro lines for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision towards 2050. These lines include extensions to existing lines and new routes, such as Line 1, Line 1A, Line 2, Line 2A, Line 3, Line 4, Line 5, Line 6, Line 7, Line 8, Line 9, Line 10, Line 11, and Line 12, connecting various parts of the city and its outskirts.
