The Vinh Phuc Province’s Market Management Bureau has reported that they, in collaboration with the provincial police force, have inspected, detected, and handled numerous cases related to smuggled goods, counterfeits, and food safety violations at Tho Tang Market in Tho Tang town, Vinh Tuong District.

Due to the intensified inspections and penalties, many business households in Tho Tang Market chose to temporarily shut down their operations as a precautionary measure.

During this heightened inspection period, the authorities uncovered four instances of trading in counterfeit goods bearing famous brand names. The seized products included 1,415 bags, 300 cosmetic items, 304 clothing pieces, and an unspecified number of pairs of slippers.

The offenders were fined VND 64,000,000 (approximately $2,730) in total, and counterfeit goods worth VND 40,399,585 (approximately $1,725) were destroyed.

The joint force also uncovered instances of selling products with misleading expiration dates, and toys without the mandatory information on their labels as required by law.

Notably, three cases of trading in animal products were discovered, involving the sale of animals that had not been inspected for slaughter and those of unknown origin, with a total weight of 2,053 kg. Fines amounting to VND 26,500,000 (approximately $1,130) were imposed for these violations.

Other violations detected during this inspection drive included operating without business registration, trading restricted chemicals, and producing and trading industrial chemicals without a license. Additionally, cases of trading in unidentified sources of N2O gas and retailing alcohol products were also uncovered.

Tho Tang Market, also known as Giang Market, in Vinh Tuong District, Vinh Phuc Province, is one of the largest and busiest wholesale markets in Northern Vietnam. With over 1,000 traders, the market offers a diverse range of products, from textiles and agricultural produce to construction materials, household goods, and even industrial machinery. It serves as a hub for the collection, transshipment, and distribution of goods from all over the country.

According to statistics from the People’s Committee of Tho Tang town, the business households in the market contribute more than VND 2,000 billion (approximately $85 million) to the local economy, accounting for approximately 80% of the locality’s production value.
