The Management Board of the Economic Zones and Industrial Parks in Quang Nam province has submitted a proposal to the People’s Committee, requesting to organize a consultation with the Provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board regarding the construction planning project for the Northwest Chu Lai Airport Urban Area in the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone.

The urban area covers an area of over 538 hectares in Tam Nghia, Tam Quang, Tam Giang communes, and Nui Thanh town in Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam province. It is expected to achieve standards equivalent to a type II urban area with a population of approximately 35,000 people.

The proposal clearly states that the Northwest Chu Lai Airport Urban Area is oriented to develop as a modern mixed-use urban area, integrating diverse functions such as a service center, new residential areas, and renovated residential areas. It also aims to provide land funds for resettlement of large-scale projects that are currently being implemented and will be implemented in Nui Thanh district.

Location of Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam province

The entire urban area is divided into two main functional areas:

Area 1, covering approximately 239 hectares, is for urban development combined with renovation. This area will form new residential areas, existing residential areas associated with small-scale handicraft production, and traditional craft villages. Additionally, there will be landscape parks and commercial-service facilities to serve the livelihood and local economic development.

Area 2, spanning nearly 300 hectares, is designated as the commercial and public service center of the urban area. The urban space in this area will be organized in a modern and synchronized manner, focusing on ecology and sustainability.

This area will feature eco-friendly residential areas with integrated infrastructure, renovated residential areas, commercial-service streets, and a complex of offices, hotels, and public service facilities. Notably, development will take place along the strategic Vo Chi Cong road, which connects Chu Lai Airport with other functional areas of the open economic zone.

With its strategic location and well-planned development, the Northwest Chu Lai Airport Urban Area is expected to become a new growth driver, contributing to urbanization and socio-economic development in the southern part of Quang Nam province.
