Global pork consumption continues to grow at a steady pace.

According to the World Population Review (WPR), pork accounts for a significant 34% of global meat consumption, highlighting its importance in diets worldwide. This also reflects the popularity of pork, attributed to its distinct flavor, versatility in cooking, and cultural significance in many regions.

Current pork consumption stands at approximately 131.04 million tons, and it is projected to increase slightly to around 131.5 million tons by 2031. This modest growth indicates that the demand for pork will continue to rise steadily.

In its recently released April 2025 report, “Livestock and Poultry: World Markets and Trade,” the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) provided forecasts and statistics on the global pork market. The USDA predicts that global pork production in 2025 will remain almost unchanged from 2024, reaching 116.7 million tons due to offsetting production in key markets such as Brazil, the United States, the European Union, and China.

Vietnam’s pork production is expected to increase by 3%, reaching 3.8 million tons, due to anticipated herd expansion as African Swine Fever (ASF) control measures improve. Vietnam is also among the top six countries/regions with the highest pork consumption, along with China, the EU, Russia, the United States, and Brazil.
