The Hanoi High-Level People’s Court has decided to reopen the appellate trial for Trinh Van Quyet, former Chairman of FLC Group, and his accomplices in the case of stock manipulation and fraud on June 17th.

Previously, the appellate trial reviewing Mr. Quyet’s appeal, along with his two sisters and several related defendants, had been postponed twice due to his absence for health reasons.

At the second appellate trial, held in late March, attorney Nguyen Trong Nghia, representing Mr. Quyet, stated that his client had been facing serious health issues since late December 2024 and was diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis, with a deteriorating condition.

On March 1st, the hospital concluded that Mr. Quyet was also suffering from grade 3 heart failure and multiple life-threatening illnesses, rendering him unable to attend the trial.

The trial panel decided to postpone the trial to ensure the rights of the defendants, the victims, and related entities. The postponement also allowed the prosecution to consider the defendants’ and their families’ efforts in remedying the consequences of the case.

Following the postponement, Mr. Quyet’s family paid an additional 100 billion VND to address the consequences of the case. This amount was transferred to the account of the Hanoi Department of Civil Judgment Enforcement.

Thus far, Mr. Quyet and his two sisters, Trinh Thi Thuy Nga, former Deputy General Director of BOS Securities Company, and Trinh Thi Minh Hue, an official in the accounting department of FLC Group, have paid a total of approximately 1,073 billion VND in compensation.

This amount is being managed by the Hanoi Department of Civil Judgment Enforcement for future civil judgment enforcement.

In the first-instance judgment in August 2024, the Hanoi People’s Court sentenced Mr. Trinh Van Quyet to 21 years in prison for fraud and stock market manipulation. Meanwhile, his sisters, Trinh Thi Minh Hue and Trinh Thi Thuy Nga, were sentenced to 14 and 8 years in prison, respectively.
