Previously, the Vietnam Aviation Authority, in coordination with the People’s Committee of Kien Giang province, announced the Planning of Phu Quoc International Airport for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision towards 2050. With a pivotal role in the development strategy of transportation and tourism infrastructure, especially in preparation for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC 2027), Phu Quoc International Airport will undergo a comprehensive upgrade, aiming to become one of the most modern and smartest airports in the world.

It is expected that Phu Quoc International Airport will have a total planned area of approximately 1,050 hectares, with an investment of VND 26,572 billion by 2030 and an additional VND 25,791 billion by 2050. The goal by 2050 is to upgrade the airport to accommodate 50 million passengers per year.

The highlight of the airport is the passenger terminal, which is designed based on the concept of a phoenix’s wings, symbolizing national prestige and pride. The terminal will also be equipped with the most modern operating technologies in the world, including check-in without going to the airport, automatic baggage sorting, and biometric identification, reducing the time for immigration to just 15-30 seconds per person…

Notably, Phu Quoc Airport will have two runways, with the existing runway extended to 3,500 meters and a new 3,300-meter runway constructed. The apron system will be expanded to over 100 positions, including 45 wide-body aircraft parking positions, including modern jet bridges, effectively serving both international and domestic passenger needs.

Especially, the VVIP terminal of Phu Quoc International Airport will be newly constructed, aiming to meet the standards for receiving state leaders. After the conclusion of the APEC summit, the VIP lounge will be utilized for international operations or aviation services for significant events.
