The previous appellate trial on March 25 was postponed due to defendant Trinh Van Quyen’s multiple medical issues, which prevented his attendance.
The appellate trial involves 25 defendants who filed appeals. The Hanoi People’s Court has summoned all 50 defendants in the case to attend the trial. In addition to these defendants, 134 victims and 396 individuals with related rights and obligations have also filed appeals. Nearly 50 lawyers have registered to participate in the trial to protect the legal rights and interests of the defendants.

The trial is expected to last for five days, from June 17 to June 21.
According to the latest information, since the appellate trial postponement on March 25, Trinh Van Quyen’s family has compensated an additional VND 100 billion, bringing the total amount of damage recovery in the case to VND 1,072 billion. Meanwhile, the total amount that defendant Trinh Van Quyen has to compensate is VND 2,400 billion.
As reported by SGGP in August 2024, the Hanoi People’s Court sentenced defendant Trinh Van Quyen to 21 years in prison for “Fraudulent Appropriation of Property” and “Stock Market Manipulation.” His two sisters, Trinh Thi Minh Hue and Trinh Thi Thuy Nga, were also convicted of the same charges. Hue was sentenced to 14 years in prison, while Nga received an eight-year sentence. Following the first-instance trial, Quyen appealed for a reduction in his prison sentence and a reconsideration of his civil compensation responsibility. Hue and Nga appealed for leniency in their criminal responsibility, while 22 other defendants requested reduced sentences, suspended sentences, and removal of asset freezes.
