A representative from Dong Xuan Joint Stock Company, the management unit of Dong Xuan Market, confirmed that many businesses are currently ceasing their trading activities. Specifically, according to the management’s statistics, 630 out of 2,200 businesses took a break from operating in the month.
Regarding the reason for this hiatus, the management shared that these businesses have submitted monthly tax suspension requests. As per tax regulations, businesses are permitted to temporarily pause their tax payments and operations on a monthly basis.
“The summer months tend to be slower for business, and many choose to take vacations. All of the 630 businesses have officially requested a break from operations and tax payments for the month. This is a common occurrence at the market for many years, with some businesses opting to operate only during the last two months of the year to capitalize on the Tet holiday sales,” the representative explained.

The representative also asserted that none of the businesses have returned their premises. Upon receiving tax suspension requests, the management takes steps to seal the stalls and temporarily cut off electricity to ensure fire safety.
Addressing the news of tax and market management authorities inspecting and handling violations related to counterfeit and imitation goods, the representative from Dong Xuan Joint Stock Company stated that the authorities have primarily focused on raising awareness and guiding businesses to complete their tax-related procedures.
“We strongly support the crackdown on counterfeit and imitation goods and the enforcement of food safety regulations to protect the rights and interests of consumers,” the representative emphasized.
Prior to this, there were reports circulating about kiosks and shops in Dong Xuan Market and Hang Da Market abruptly closing down due to intensified inspections and crackdowns on illicit and counterfeit goods. Notably, most of the closed shops in Dong Xuan Market were located on the first floor, with a few scattered on the second and third floors. The usually bustling market now presents an unusual quietness.
