Honda ICON e: Revolutionizing Urban Commuting

In April 2025, Honda Vietnam unveiled the highly-anticipated ICON e: electric scooter, assembled at their Vinh Phuc factory and offered with a unique sales policy.

The scooter is available in three distinct versions, with prices excluding the battery pack: the Premium version retails at VND 26.9 million, the Special version at VND 27.1 million, and the Sports version at VND 27.3 million, including 10% VAT.

Honda Vietnam offers a battery rental program for the ICON e: at VND 350,000 per month (including 10% VAT), with unlimited mileage.

The scooter is equipped with a 30.6 Ah Lithium-ion battery, strategically placed in the footwell, offering a range of 50 km per charge, as per Honda’s testing, and is IP67 water-resistant. Charging the battery from 0-100% takes approximately 7.5 hours. Users can either plug the scooter into a charging port or remove the battery and charge it externally.

The ICON e: boasts a spacious 26-liter under-seat compartment, accommodating a plethora of personal belongings. Two convenient front compartments and a USB Type-A port ensure easy charging of electronic devices on the go.

In terms of performance, the ICON e: delivers a maximum power output of 1.81 kW (2.43 hp) and a torque of 85 Nm. The top speed is limited to 48 km/h. The 48V battery has a capacity of 30.6 Ah, equivalent to 1.469 kWh.

Honda’s internal testing revealed that the ICON e: can achieve a range of up to 71 km on a single charge.

One notable feature of the ICON e: is its combined braking system (CBS). This system ensures that both front and rear brakes are activated simultaneously when either brake lever is applied, resulting in more balanced braking and improved vehicle control.

Specifically, when the rider applies either the right or left brake lever, the system automatically adjusts to synchronize both brakes, reducing the risk of wheel lock-up and enhancing overall safety.

At the time of its launch, Honda touted the ICON e: as the only scooter in its segment in Vietnam to feature the CBS system.

Yadea Velax: Smart and Affordable

Additional conveniences include cruise control, a digital display, a front storage compartment, and full LED lighting.

Performance-wise, the H version is the entry-level model, equipped with a 76V 30 Ah LFP battery (2.28 kWh) and a TTFAR motor technology, delivering a rated power of 2 kW (2.7 hp) and a torque of 172 Nm. It has a top speed of 64 km/h and a claimed range of 80 km.

The U version, on the other hand, features a pair of Ternary Lithium batteries, offering a combined capacity of 4 kWh. It produces a rated power of 3 kW (4 hp) and a torque of 176 Nm, enabling a top speed of 86 km/h and a range of 129 km.

The Fast Charging version adds rapid charging capability (80% in 20 minutes) and weighs 122 kg. All battery packs across the Velax range are removable for external charging and feature an IPX7 water-resistant rating, allowing the scooter to wade through 300 mm of water.
