VinFast Makes Headlines in India: Factory Inauguration and Vehicle Launches in the Spotlight
Indian media outlets have been abuzz with news about VinFast over the past week, with the main focus revolving around two key aspects: the imminent inauguration of their factory and the upcoming launch of their vehicles in the market.
Reputable sources such as Deccan Herald and Hindustan Times have reported that VinFast’s factory in the state of Tamil Nadu is expected to be inaugurated soon, possibly by the end of June. This factory, with a projected investment of $2 billion, will initially have a capacity of 50,000 vehicles per year, ramping up to 150,000 units annually by the end of 2025.

According to India TV News, VinFast’s Asia CEO, Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, shared that the company will generate approximately 3,500 local jobs by 2030. The factory will not only cater to the Indian market, but also explore opportunities in neighboring regions such as the Middle East and Africa.

VinFast’s India factory construction began in February 2024.
Spanning across 160 hectares, the construction of the VinFast India factory commenced on February 25, 2024. Indian media previously reported that the factory had reached approximately 90% completion as of March 2025. To facilitate the official operation of the factory, VinFast plans to ship around 2,000 TEU of goods, equivalent to 2,000 20-foot containers (6.1 meters).
Unlike the VinFast Indonesia factory, which produces right-hand drive vehicles, the India factory is expected to manufacture both left- and right-hand drive cars. The models to be produced include VF 3, VF 5, and VF e34.

VinFast VF 7 officially introduced in India.
However, prominent Indian media outlets such as India Times, Hindustan Times, and Deccan Herald have revealed that the first two models to be launched in India will be the VF 6 and VF 7 this month, followed by the VF 3 in the coming year. The left-hand drive versions of these models were previously showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, alongside other VinFast models like the VF e34 and VF 9.
Additionally, while a few VF 8 vehicles have been spotted by the Indian media, their purpose, whether for testing or otherwise, remains unclear.
Not Considering Tesla and BYD as Competitors
India News and Deccan Herald highlighted Mr. Pham Sanh Chau’s insights to elucidate VinFast’s plans in the Indian market.
Mr. Pham Sanh Chau shared that the VinFast India factory was completed in just 15 months, an impressive feat. When asked about the reason for choosing Tamil Nadu as the factory location, he explained, “We visited many states and studied many locations before deciding on Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, due to its logistics strengths, [including] a port and airport nearby.”

VinFast Asia CEO Pham Sanh Chau believes that companies with shared visions should be considered friends.
To accelerate growth, VinFast intends to expand its network of distributors and partner repair workshops and establish a comprehensive charging infrastructure. The company will also offer customers the option to exchange their old vehicles for new VinFast models.
