The Yamaha Y15ZR SE, a special edition of the Exciter 150 sold in Malaysia, has been imported to Vietnam by a private motorcycle business in District 5, Ho Chi Minh City. Only 25 units of this limited edition model are available in Vietnam, out of a global production run of 2,000 units. First launched in Malaysia in 2023 by Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM), the Y15ZR SE is a rare find for enthusiasts.

In Malaysia, the Y15ZR SE is priced between 8,000 and 9,000 ringgit (approximately $49 million to $55 million VND). However, due to private import taxes and the bike’s rarity, sources suggest that the selling price in Vietnam could exceed 100 million VND, although the official price is yet to be announced. This premium pricing is not unusual for imported motorcycles, as seen with the Yamaha Y16ZR 6MRO, which sold for 160 million VND, and the Yamaha Exciter 135LC, which reached 100 million VND.

The Yamaha Y15ZR SE is not entirely new to Vietnamese customers, as it is essentially the same model as the Exciter 150 that was officially distributed by Yamaha Vietnam from 2018 to 2020. Since then, Yamaha Vietnam has replaced the Exciter 150 with the Exciter 155. Meanwhile, in Malaysia, Yamaha continues to offer both the 150cc Y15ZR and the 155cc Y16ZR.

What sets the Y15ZR SE apart from the standard model are its exclusive accessories, including a wind deflector above the headlight, decorative air intakes on the sides of the fairing (below the turn signals), and unique details at the rear. The special edition features a striking blue and black color scheme, accented by copper and red highlights. The 17-inch wheels are finished in copper, while the seat features red stitching for a sporty and distinctive look.

In terms of specifications, the Yamaha Y15ZR SE retains the same technical features as the standard Exciter 150. It is powered by a single-cylinder, SOHC, liquid-cooled 150cc engine that delivers 15.1 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 13.8 Nm at 7,000 rpm, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Y15ZR SE is equipped with single-piston disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels, but it does not feature ABS. The front suspension comprises a pair of inverted forks, while the rear monoshock suspension is painted in a striking red color. The fuel tank capacity is 4.2 liters, and unlike the Exciter 155 and Y16ZR, which feature smart key systems, the Y15ZR SE uses a traditional mechanical key.

The bike features a fully digital instrument cluster with a tachometer arc that mimics the style of a sports motorcycle, displaying essential information such as speed, gear position, trip distance, and fuel level. The right handlebar cluster integrates the ignition switch and emergency flasher controls.

With overall dimensions of 1,970 x 670 x 1,100 mm, a weight of 115 kg, a ground clearance of 135 mm, and a seat height of 780 mm, the Yamaha Y15ZR SE is well-suited to the average Vietnamese rider’s physique.

As a limited-edition import from Malaysia, the Yamaha Y15ZR SE stands out in the Vietnamese market. Its closest competitor in terms of performance and segment is the Honda Winner X.
