What does the nearly VND 3,700 billion Hong River Surface Water Plant look like?

The Hong River Surface Water Plant project has a total investment of nearly VND 3,700 billion and is developed by Hong River Surface Water JSC. Initially, the project was expected to complete phase 1 in mid-2020.

However, due to various reasons, the project has fallen behind the initial schedule.

The Hong River Surface Water Plant has a designed capacity of 300,000 cubic meters per day in phase 1, providing clean water to 8 communes of Dan Phuong district and some adjacent areas.

The total construction area of the plant is 21.1 hectares. According to the design, the transmission pipeline is 28.1 kilometers long and uses highly durable ductile iron pipes to reduce the risk of pipe bursts and leaks.

The operation process of the Hong River Surface Water Plant includes: preliminary sedimentation, coagulation, mixing reaction, horizontal settling, rapid filtration, organic filtration, disinfection, and then storage in clean water tanks.

The main items of the project have been basically completed and can be put into operation in the near future.

In the future, the Hong River Surface Water Plant can operate at a capacity of 450,000 cubic meters per day.

The project can ensure a stable water supply to the southern bank of the Hong River, including the central urban area of Hanoi (inner districts) and areas without a water supply system in the west of Ring Road 3 and north of National Highway 32 in Bac Tu Liem district and Dan Phuong district.
On April 17, 2025, the Hanoi People’s Committee issued Decision No. 2089/QD-UBND approving the sanitary protection area for the Hong River Surface Water Plant’s water intake point in Lien Ha commune, Dan Phuong district. Accordingly, the sanitary protection area for the water intake point shall not be less than 1,000 meters upstream and 200 meters downstream.
Strict protection is required around the water intake point of the project. All activities that may cause pollution within the sanitary protection area are prohibited.
