According to recently released ABBANK documents, the bank’s foreign strategic shareholder, Maybank, has officially appointed Mr. Syed Ahmad Taufik Albar as its representative for 100% of Maybank’s capital in ABBANK, effective June 5, 2025.
Concurrently, Maybank announced that Mr. Michael Foong Seong Yew is no longer representing Maybank’s capital in ABBANK. As a result, Mr. Foong Seong Yew is no longer a member of ABBANK’s Board of Directors as of June 5, 2025.

Mr. Syed Ahmad Taufik Albar, born in 1972, was nominated by Maybank and elected as a member of ABBANK’s Board of Directors at the bank’s Annual General Meeting on April 18, 2025. With 27 years of experience, Mr. Albar is an expert in the fields of Accounting, Finance, and Banking. He has held significant positions at Shell Oil Company (Malaysia, Australia), Axiata Telecommunications Group (Malaysia, Cambodia), RHB Bank (Malaysia), and Maybank (Malaysia). Currently, he serves as the Community Financial Services Director at Maybank Group.
Maybank currently holds 16.4% of ABBANK’s chartered capital. As of the end of May 2025, ABBANK recorded nearly VND 1,500 billion in pre-tax profits, with a slight increase in credit compared to the beginning of the year.
