## Unveiling the 2025 CSI Program: Empowering Vietnamese Businesses Towards Sustainability and Resilience

On June 5, 2025, the Corporate Sustainability Assessment and Recognition Program in Vietnam for 2025 (CSI 2025) was officially launched, marking a decade of consecutive leadership by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) under the guidance of the Government.

CSI 2025 aims to recognize, encourage, and honor businesses that excel in sustainable production and operations, contributing to the development of a responsible, sustainable, and inclusive business community.

CSI PAVING THE WAY TOWARD EFFECTIVE SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS STRATEGIES

Ms. Dao Thuy Ha, Member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of Traphaco Joint Stock Company, shared that the global economy is facing multiple challenges, ranging from geopolitical tensions to supply chain disruptions, climate change, the green transition, and the circular economy.

Even in Vietnam, the discourse around responsible business conduct and sustainable development, with a priority on consumer welfare, is heating up. This calls for businesses to enhance their competitive edge and embrace sustainable governance.

As a pharmaceutical company, Traphaco remains steadfast in its commitment to sustainable development, rooted in its mission of healing and saving lives. This is not merely a strategic choice but a philosophy that permeates the company’s operations.

Traphaco clearly understands that sustainable development entails more than economic growth; it’s about striking a balance between the interests of the business, the community, and environmental protection. These three pillars also align with the modern ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) model.

To thrive sustainably, a business must be guided by transparent governance, adhering to ethical and legal standards. Traphaco has embraced modern governance practices, enhancing the role of its Board of Directors, delineating clear supervisory and executive functions, promoting transparency, and fostering a robust internal culture.

In its journey to enhance governance capabilities, Traphaco formally adopted the CSI index as a self-assessment tool to scrutinize its governance system. The CSI index isn’t just a scoring criterion; it serves as a reflective mirror, helping Traphaco evaluate its business performance from multiple perspectives, including finance, human resources, the environment, and innovation. Consequently, Traphaco has been ranked among the Top 10 Sustainable Businesses in Vietnam’s manufacturing sector for seven years, consistently recognized as a Business for Labor, Top 10 Golden Star, and most recently, among the Top 50 Best Listed Companies in Vietnam for 2024.

Ms. Diep Thi Kim Hoan, Director of Sustainable Development at Deep C Industrial Zones, shared that the CSI index empowers businesses to enhance their competitive edge, evidenced by the presence of numerous prominent corporations choosing Deep C as their manufacturing base. Deep C is committed to four pillars: the environment (waste recycling and the circular economy); social responsibility and people; economic efficiency; and collaboration. This approach positions Deep C to attract investments and work towards becoming Vietnam’s first eco-industrial park.

ENCOURAGING SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES AMONG SMALL AND MICRO ENTERPRISES

Embracing the spirit of Resolution 68 on private economic development, Resolution 57 on national breakthrough in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, along with Resolutions 138 and 139 issued in May 2025 by the Government, Mr. Nguyen Tien Huy, Director of the Business for Sustainable Development (SD4B) Office and Head of the Program Secretariat, highlighted practical adjustments in the 2025 CSI Index.

Specifically, the 2025 CSI Index is structured into seven main parts: Business Information; Structure, Model, and Key Personnel; Analysis of Material Issues; Performance Indicators over three years; Governance Indicators; Environmental Indicators; and Labor and Social Indicators.

The index has been streamlined to 145 indicators, comprising 85 basic indicators related to compliance (59%) and 58 advanced indicators linked to practical initiatives (41%).

According to Mr. Huy, the refined CSI Index reflects the Program’s organizers’ desire to encourage businesses to evolve from “compliance” to “innovation” in sustainable business practices through novel initiatives. This enables businesses to build a stronger competitive edge, reap more significant value from sustainable practices, and adapt to the dynamic context.

Additionally, to engage a broader spectrum of small and micro enterprises from the private sector, the Program has tailored a version of the 2025 CSI Index specifically for these businesses, comprising 87 indicators across six parts, compared to the comprehensive version with 145 indicators for medium and large enterprises.

“Most of these are compliance indicators (84%), with only 14 advanced indicators (16%) – aligning with the goal of encouraging small and micro enterprises to gradually embrace sustainable development through assured compliance in their operations,” Mr. Huy noted.

For medium and large enterprises, the 2025 CSI Index introduces the requirement to “Analyze Material Issues,” enabling businesses to identify internal and external sustainability dimensions. This helps them recognize how their sustainable development strategies are influenced by various factors and make necessary adjustments.

Another notable innovation in the 2025 CSI Program is the integration of technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in its implementation, offering a refreshed approach and added convenience for businesses participating in the Program and adopting the index.
