Vietnam Airlines and China Southern Airlines have announced the launch of the first-ever Vietnam-China airline joint venture, starting August 1, 2025. The venture has received approvals from relevant authorities.

This joint venture aims to enhance air connectivity between the two countries, offering passengers a wider network and seamless travel experience. It will expand the flight network between Vietnam and China, boosting trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges. This move is significant as both countries are actively promoting regional cooperation.

Vietnam Airlines and China Southern Airlines will collaborate on flight schedules, codeshare on select routes, and implement inter-airline through check-in. Passengers can now obtain boarding passes for up to three consecutive flights from their initial departure point.

Additionally, loyalty program members of both airlines will enjoy exclusive benefits, including priority check-in counters, extra baggage allowance, and priority boarding.

China Southern Airlines currently operates flights from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Changsha, Wuhan, and Shanghai (China) to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Nha Trang. Illustration purposes only.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung, Head of Planning and Development at Vietnam Airlines, shared, “Our joint venture with China Southern Airlines marks a new chapter in our partnership. We aim to provide convenient travel experiences and added value to our passengers while contributing to the socio-economic development of both nations.”

Mr. Zhang Dongsheng, Deputy General Manager of the Commercial Leading Committee of China Southern Airlines, stated that the joint venture with Vietnam Airlines is a crucial step in their strategy to expand their international network.

Vietnam Airlines and China Southern Airlines have a long-standing partnership spanning over a decade, starting with codeshare flights in 2010. In 2022, they signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement, expanding their collaboration in technical, commercial, service, and ground handling areas. This included the joint development of hub airports to enhance operational efficiency and convenience for passengers.

Currently, China Southern Airlines operates flights from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Changsha, Wuhan, and Shanghai (China) to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Nha Trang, with a frequency of up to 111 flights per week. Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines offers more than 50 weekly flights between Vietnam and major Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Nanjing, and Wuhan.

Starting August 1, passengers traveling between Vietnam and China on Vietnam Airlines and China Southern Airlines flights will enjoy enhanced benefits, including through check-in for three consecutive flights, mutual mileage accumulation, and the use of mutual benefits offered by both airlines.
