According to the latest data from the Customs Department, in April 2025, Vietnam exported 73,410 tons of cashew nuts, earning $494.05 million. This marks a significant increase of 9.6% in volume and 37.9% in value compared to April 2024.

Cumulative figures for the first four months of 2025 show that Vietnam has exported 195,600 tons of cashew nuts, worth $1.33 billion. While the volume has decreased by 10% compared to the same period in 2024, the export value has increased by an impressive 14.4%.

The United States remains Vietnam’s largest cashew nut export market, although this dominance is decreasing due to tax policy changes. From January to April 2025, Vietnam exported 42,390 tons of cashew nuts to the US, earning $289.28 million. This represents a considerable decline of 25.8% in volume and 4.8% in value compared to the previous year.

Compared to 2024, cashew prices in the global market are currently 25-30% higher. With an additional 10% import tax, cashew prices in the US market are now 35-40% higher. As a result, many American consumers have reduced their cashew consumption or switched to alternative nuts such as almonds and walnuts.

In contrast, China has been actively importing cashew nuts from Vietnam during this period. In the first four months of 2025, cashew exports to China reached 41,160 tons, with a total value of $258.55 million. This reflects an increase of 11.2% in volume and an impressive 29.1% in value compared to the same period in 2024. Export prices have also risen by 16%.

The demand for cashew nuts in China is on the rise, leading Chinese traders to increase their purchases of Vietnamese cashews in recent months.

Chinese consumers, especially the younger generation, spend a significant portion of their day commuting or working, leading to a high demand for snacks. Despite the variety of snacks available in the Chinese market, the demand for cashew nuts and cashew-related products is growing rapidly as they are considered a healthy snack option.

According to Chinese consumers, due to the local soil being deep, loose, and mineral-rich, Vietnamese cashew nuts are fuller and tastier, with a lower rate of inferior nuts compared to those from other regions.

In addition to China, cashew exports to other markets are also performing well. According to the Import-Export Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, from January to April 2025, Vietnam’s cashew exports recorded impressive growth in several markets, including the Netherlands, the UAE, Japan, the Philippines, and India.

In 2006, with an export turnover of $520 million, Vietnam officially became the world’s largest cashew exporter. By 2010, this commodity earned Vietnam $1 billion for the first time, simultaneously entering the “billion-dollar club” of agricultural products. Cashew nuts are a leading export product for Vietnam, accounting for over 80% of the world’s total cashew nut exports.

The global cashew nut market was valued at $7.78 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $8.14 billion in 2025 and $11.67 billion by 2033, according to Straitsresearch.

The growth drivers for the cashew nut market are the development of the food processing industry, fueled by urbanization, changing consumer lifestyles, and the demand for convenience foods. Cashew nuts are widely used in the food processing industry for snacks, confectionery, bakery products, and more.

With this positive trend, the import demand for cashew nuts in major markets is likely to continue to increase in the coming time, providing ample opportunities for Vietnamese suppliers.
