According to information from the Economic Police, Quang Tri Province’s Public Security, at around 8:10 pm on June 4th, at Km 9 of National Highway 9, at the intersection of the Cam Lo – La Son expressway with National Highway 9, in Nam Hieu village, Cam Hieu commune, Cam Lo district, authorities inspected a car with the license plate number 29D-234.20.
The inspection revealed a large quantity of goods, including 45 bottles of Chivas Regal 25-year-old Scotch whisky, 54 bottles of Royal Salute 21, and 6,000 packs of Esse cigarettes. The total value of the goods was estimated at VND 450 million. Notably, none of the goods had invoices or documents proving their origin, and the driver had fled the scene.
Just 10 minutes later, at 8:20 pm on the same day, at Km 10 of National Highway 9, in Vinh An village, Cam Hieu commune, the task force continued to inspect a car with the license plate number 74D-002.01 driven by Mr. Tran Dang Khoa (born 1998, residing in Dong Ha city). The vehicle contained 54 bottles of Chivas 12-year-old Scotch whisky, 60 bottles of Jagermeister, 1,500 packs of Jet cigarettes, and 6 Panasonic air conditioners, with a total value of approximately VND 200 million. The driver was unable to present documents proving the origin of the goods.
At around 8:30 pm on the same day, authorities inspected another car with the license plate number 43D-007.39 driven by Mr. Dieu Duc Trung (born 1991, residing in Dong Ha city), accompanied by Mr. Tran Dinh Phi (born 1995, also from Dong Ha). The inspection revealed 60 bottles of Royal Salute 21, 4,000 bottles of Heineken beer, and 3,000 packs of Jet cigarettes, all without legal documents. The estimated value of the goods was VND 250 million.
Initial investigations revealed that the goods were all smuggled and being transported from the Lao Bao area to Dong Ha city for consumption. The Quang Tri Province’s Criminal Police Agency has temporarily detained three related individuals for further investigation.
CRACKDOWN ON BORDER SMUGGLING INTENSIFIES
In parallel with the police’s activities, from May 15th until now, the Quang Tri Province Border Guard has been conducting a campaign to prevent smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods along the entire border area. As a result, in a short period, the border guard force detected and handled 12 cases with 13 violators.
The total seized exhibits included 2,700 kg of sugar, 4,250 packs of foreign cigarettes, 1,000 bottles of energy drinks, 200 kg of MSG, and 600 kg of unidentified pork organs. The total value of the seized goods is estimated at VND 166 million.

A typical case occurred on the evening of May 22 in Lao Bao town, Huong Hoa district. The Lao Bao International Border Gate Border Guard Station, in coordination with functional forces, detected Mr. Nguyen Van Sam (born 1996, residing in Hue city) transporting 600 kg of unidentified animal organs. The authorities proceeded with administrative sanctions and destroyed all violating goods.
In Tan Long commune, Huong Hoa district, the Border Guard force detected Mr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong (born 1973, residing in Dong Ha city), Ms. Le Thi Thuy (born 1976, residing in Trieu Phong district), along with Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuy and Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu (both born in 1971, residing in Lao Bao town) transporting 1,100 packs of unidentified cigarettes. Additionally, two other cases involving the transportation of 2,400 packs of foreign cigarettes with unidentified owners were discovered in the same area.
According to the Quang Tri Province Border Guard, during this intensive period, the unit closely coordinated with relevant agencies to enhance control at key locations such as the Lao Bao International Border Gate, Huong Phung, Thuan, Thanh, Ba Nang, Cua Tung, and Cai Viet Port.
The inspection and control focus on consumer goods, food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and goods that may affect community health. At the same time, the forces are intensifying the fight against prohibited goods such as drugs, explosives, cigarettes, gold, and currency…
