Package XL6 of Ho Chi Minh City’s Ring Road 3 project in Cu Chi district commenced construction on June 29, 2023, with a total length of 6.07km. The starting point of the route connects to the Binh Goi Bridge contract package (under Component Project 5 by Binh Duong Province Project Management Authority) and the ending point connects to package XL7 in Hoc Mon district.

The project includes critical components such as expressways, parallel roads on both sides, bridges over rivers and canals, overpasses, tunnels on Provincial Road 15, and a system of transverse culverts. These items are implemented synchronously to ensure connectivity, drainage, and safe traffic flow along the entire Ring Road 3 section through Cu Chi district.

Package XL6 is undertaken by a joint venture of construction units, including Construction Corporation Truong Son, Corporation 319 (Ministry of Defense), Infrastructure Development Joint Stock Company Dai Phong, CK4 Corporation Joint Stock Company, and Quang Phuc Group Joint Stock Company.

In the early days of June, at the construction site of package XL6 of Ho Chi Minh City’s Ring Road 3 project in Cu Chi district, hundreds of workers were busy working to accelerate the progress and ensure the important milestones of the project.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Transport Project Management Board (Transportation Board), one of the most significant challenges currently facing the project is the shortage of filling sand. The scarcity of supply directly impacts the construction progress of the road foundation and other critical components. The Transportation Board is coordinating with departments, sectors, and local authorities to address this issue and ensure the overall progress of the entire project.

Mr. Hoang Tung, in charge of the project, said that the domestic sand supply shortage has forced the construction unit to purchase sand from Cambodia at a price of nearly VND 400,000/m³, which is about VND 100,000/m³ higher than the domestic price. The increased material cost puts tremendous pressure on the contractor, but the units are still striving to maintain the schedule as planned.

Mr. Tung also shared that the unit must import between 600 and 1,200m³ of sand daily to meet the construction schedule. Due to the extreme scarcity of domestic supply, the most viable option currently is to import sand from Cambodia. The total sand volume required for all bridge, road, and tunnel items in package XL6 is estimated at about 300,000m³.

The rainy season has brought challenges to the construction progress, especially for outdoor items such as concrete pouring and road foundation works. However, Mr. Hoang Tung shared that the construction unit has proactively adjusted the plan and flexibly switched to indoor fabrication during unfavorable weather conditions to ensure the project’s progress.

Every day, more than 300 workers and machinery are in operation from 6:30 am to 12:00 am, with simultaneous work fronts on the construction site.

At Tunnel No. 1 on Provincial Road 15, the main item is 450m long, including 180m of open tunnel at both ends and 90m of closed tunnel. The project is currently working on the concrete part, and the pile-driving process has been completed. The construction volume has reached about 50%, and it is expected to be finished by the end of this year.

The panorama of Ring Road 3 is gradually taking shape, crossing vast fields in Cu Chi district, promising a new infrastructure landscape and contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
