With just about three months to go until Apple officially unveils the iPhone 17, all eyes are, as usual, on the changes coming to the standard model.
After the iPhone 16 standard model was well-received for offering many features from the Pro line at a reasonable price, users are hoping the iPhone 17 will continue this tradition. However, according to recent reports, the specification upgrades on this year’s standard model may fall short of some expectations.
According to analyst Jeff Pu, Apple is almost certain to retain the A18 chip for the iPhone 17 standard, which is manufactured on the N3E (3nm second-generation) process and was also featured in last year’s iPhone 16. Similarly, the RAM capacity is expected to remain at 8GB, contrary to initial hopes for a boost to 12GB. In contrast, the iPhone 17 “Air” and Pro models will reportedly receive more substantial upgrades with the new A19 and A19 Pro chips, built on the more advanced N3P 3nm process and paired with 12GB of RAM, greatly enhancing multitasking and AI capabilities.

Despite the lack of a performance leap, the standard iPhone 17 still has a few tricks up its sleeve. Firstly, in the context of rising prices for the Air and Pro models due to inflation and tariffs, the standard iPhone 17 is predicted to maintain the accessible price point of its predecessor. Interestingly, Apple is also rumored to be bringing a 120Hz display to the standard model for the first time, answering a long-awaited request from users.
Additionally, the standard iPhone 17 is expected to feature an upgraded 24MP selfie camera and a slightly larger 6.3-inch display, matching the current size of the iPhone 16 Pro.
In summary, while the iPhone 17 base model may not deliver a significant performance boost, its well-targeted improvements—including a smoother display, sharper camera, and modern design—could still make this “budget-friendly” iPhone a compelling choice for the vast majority of iOS users.

The Power of Apple: Why iPhone Prices Are on the Rise
“Trump’s push for Apple to manufacture iPhones in the US is a scenario that analysts believe Apple would never willingly choose. This move by the former president is seen as a forced strategy, one that the tech giant has long avoided. With complex global supply chains and established assembly processes already in place, it’s clear why this shift would be undesirable for Apple.”
The American-Made iPhone: A Pricey Surprise
The iPhone is an iconic smartphone brand, but what would happen if its production moved back to the USA? The cost of manufacturing in the States is significantly higher than in other countries, and this would have a huge impact on the final price tag. A potential price of $3,500 per unit is not out of the question, a stark contrast to the current pricing strategy and a huge barrier for consumers.
