In the afternoon of June 9th, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh had a working session with the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB) to inspect and urge the implementation of urban railway projects in the capital and resolve difficulties and obstacles in the process.
At the working session, the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board reported on its organizational structure, physical facilities, and progress of key projects such as the Metro Line 2 (Nam Thang Long – Tran Hung Dao) and Line 5 (Van Cao – Hoa Lac), as well as tasks related to network planning and TOD model development.

MRB also proposed and recommended the completion of the organization, arrangement of a suitable workplace, and additional capital for project implementation.
In the first six months of 2025, the total disbursement for the projects reached 21.5%. For the Nhon – Hanoi Station Metro Line project, the elevated section has been operational since August 2025, and the operation has ensured safety. The construction progress of the underground section reached 48.72%, and the contractor committed to completing the construction of both tunnels by December 2025.
Regarding the Nam Thang Long – Tran Hung Dao line project, the Board has mobilized Japanese consultants since February 2025 to complete the project adjustment dossiers, expected to be submitted to the city in July 2025 for approval.
Currently, compensation support and resettlement have completed land clearance for agricultural land. However, there are still 187 households in the Xuan Dinh Depot area whose land has not been cleared.

Additionally, there are 79 households along the extended Nguyen Van Huyen Street who have not been compensated for land clearance, which may affect the progress of the elevated section package of the project.
For the Line 5 project, Van Cao – Ngoc Khanh – Lang – Hoa Lac: The investment preparation phase includes 10 packages, of which 1 contract has been signed, and the remaining 9 consulting packages are completing procedures for contract signing.
Furthermore, the Board is also preparing investments for 10 urban railway lines in 2025 and the remaining lines in 2026.
Speaking at the working session, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh emphasized the critical role of the urban railway system in building a modern, civilized, and sustainable capital city. He highlighted the importance of overall planning for immediate and synchronous implementation of urban railway projects. He also highly appreciated the efforts, sense of responsibility, and innovative proposals of the Management Board.
The Chairman agreed with the report and proposals of the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board regarding the construction schedule of the Xuan Dinh Depot in October 2025 and the entire line in the fourth quarter of 2026 for the investment project to build the urban railway line No. 2 (phase 1), Nam Thang Long – Tran Hung Dao section.
Regarding the investment project to build the urban railway line No.5, Van Cao – Hoa Lac, the Chairman of the City People’s Committee requested the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board to focus on reviewing and accelerating the progress to ensure the commencement of the entire line in 2025. In parallel, the Board should also implement the overall development project for the capital’s urban railway system and the Resolution No. 188/2025/QH15 dated February 19, 2025, of the National Assembly.
The Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee affirmed that the city would accompany and create the most favorable conditions for the projects to be implemented on schedule and with the highest quality.
