The proposed route for the Tu Lien Bridge, traversing Tay Ho district and ending at the intersection with Nghi Tam street (Tay Ho district) – indicated by the red line. The suggested tunnel route under West Lake would begin after crossing Nghi Tam street – indicated by the yellow line.

The tunnel is expected to pass through areas with ponds, lakes, and well-known restaurants and hotels in the Tu Hoa street area (lakeside road).

Explaining the proposal, the founder of the Pacific Group shared that the Tu Lien Bridge project is of great importance. Thus, constructing a tunnel under West Lake to extend the bridge’s approach road would significantly benefit Hanoi’s transportation system and the bridge itself.

However, representatives from several Hanoi-based departments in charge of planning and construction expressed their concerns. They stated that apart from the absence of a master plan, West Lake holds historical and cultural value, making any large-scale construction projects in or over the lake complex and challenging.

West Lake is Hanoi’s largest lake, spanning 500 hectares with a lakeshore circumference of 17-20 kilometers. Due to its historical and cultural significance, numerous draft proposals for construction and tourism development on the lake’s surface have faced strong public opposition. Subsequently, the Hanoi city government has directed a thorough review or halt to such projects.
