Acceleration of the Merger Process of An Giang and Kien Giang Provinces
Mr. Nguyen Tien Hai, Secretary of the Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Steering Committee for the merger of An Giang and Kien Giang provinces, has issued Document No. 22 dated June 10, 2025, on leading and directing the acceleration of preparations for the merger.
The new administrative center of An Giang province will be located in Rach Gia ward, in the current Rach Gia city, Kien Giang province
The Director of the Steering Committee requires all relevant units to complete the preparation work for the provincial merger by June 30 at the latest. The new An Giang province is expected to commence operations simultaneously with the commune level from July 1.
Along with this, there must be a detailed implementation plan and a backup scenario to ensure that when the official merger takes place, all activities of the province and the new communes, wards, and special districts proceed smoothly, without any interruptions.
The Provincial Standing Committee members of the two provinces, who are assigned to oversee the directly affiliated Party committees, should strengthen inspection and monitoring of the situation, provide timely guidance on tasks, and help resolve difficulties and problems to ensure progress. At the same time, they should direct the newly-established commune-level units to operate in advance to draw lessons; by June 26, 2025, these lessons will be generalized and applied throughout the province.
The Office of the Provincial Party Committee of the two provinces will monitor, inspect, urge, and periodically report on the implementation of this document to the Steering Committee of the two provinces.
